Default Great, another reason to rack up my redline ignintion count...

My '99 pulls all the way to redline, so I admit that the rev limiter and I are already on good terms. After installing the EvoMS V-flow intake, the intake noise from 5K on up is awesome, so I reckon I'll be bouncing off the limiter more frequently. Damn.

For those of you hating on the intake, Raby posted years ago that with the intake and some careful tuning, he netted ~38HP. Jake was kind enough to let me know that they no longer offer this, so I may be heading out to Gilbert, AZ to freeload on friends and to get some dyno time @ Vivid Racing...

ECU map and intake netting 38HP?
I had one of those intakes and it sounds awesome, but really? 38HP? That I'm skeptical of. What ECU will you be using? A custom flash or a piggyback system?

Subscribed as I would be interested if this works out.
(Kinda making me wish I didn't sell all my bolt-ons now lol....)

Old Raby post from RL 996:

I just finished developing some flashes for my 99C2 a few days ago that work in conjunction with a modified EVO intake.

When I started with my engine it was making 245 RWHP on my dynojet as a bone stock 55,000 mile car/ engine. The only mods it had was our spin on filter adaptor and the LN Engineering IMS retrofit bearing.

Last Saturday after optimizing the flash, modifying the EVO intake and adding a new under drive pulley I put down 282 RWHP from an otherwise bone stock 3.4 engine... If I have time tomorrow I'll dig up a series of plots depicting the evolution of the engine's performance over a two week period of development.

I don't know what the intake mod was, but I am running an UD pulley.

I was all excited about this, +38hp, then I did the math 282-245 and realized it was only 37, not 38. Not enough, darn. :-) Maybe if you paint the intake hose red, that'd be the extra 1 hp...

Why did they stop offering this?

Tunning the ECU is simply put, removing the safety margin that Porsche programmed into the ECU.

Have you done the ECU flash? If so, who did the programming?

Please post the results if you get the chance to dyno your car. I'm very skeptical that you could see this much HP gain with these few simple mods but I would love to be proven wrong.

BTW, SD Boxster your car looks great, I love the look of that black aero kit with those wheels...

The tuning I was doing was for a certain reason for that certain car that had to compete in a class (outside where Porsches usually compete) that did not allow displacement increases.
After I did that development I put my time into homing my big bore engine internals to the point where they didn't need ECU flashes and we haven't looked back. The right mix of hardware internally and externally is the key.

When I created the ECU flash that was quoted I had a reason to need all the extra power in the upper RPM range. Over time we have learned that these engines need an extra 500 or so revs trimmed off their top end to maximize their longevity. Today we make peak power between 6-6500 rpm and keep the stock rev limits while hauling ***.
