996 clutch and flywheel
i currently have a LWFW installed in my C4S and i don't really like it,, i might go for Dual Mass for quieter and better daily driveability,,
is the flywheel selection completely independent from clutch kit selection?
in other words, is there a specific flywheel for each clutch kit?

YES, actually different clutch disk type for each flywheel.
Flywheel goes with engine/crankshaft type, clutch kits can be different types but need to match flywheel.
IE:
Solid center clutch disk = DMF flywheel
Spring or rubber center disk = one piece or LWFW

i guess the previous owner only installed LWFW and retained the solid hub clutch,, thats why it rattles,,
if i am going for DMFW,, what other parts should i also replace while i'm there?
can i retain the used clutch kit?
any breaking-in required?

If you want to retain the clutch pressure plate spring assy replace the disk, where most of the wear happens, with the correct solid center one for the DMF.So: Disk, Throwout bearing, *IMSB, RMS if wet.
Even if PO used the correct disk the trans will be noisy. That is one of the reasons Porsche went to DMF.
In earlier 911s, late 70s -80s+, Porsche used rubber centered disks, not so affectionately known as exploding hubs. The slick trick was to replace them with spring centered disks, that amplified trans rattle but spring centers did not fail as often.
