Default Need help... 996 C2 clutch/flywheel/hydraulics problem?

I have a 2002 996 C2 that is having a strange issue with clutch pedal feel.

I've taken it to a few people now and no one knows whats up.

Basically if I rev my car up high, above 6k, the clutch pedal pressure gets extremely light. Almost like a Honda Civic clutch.

After a few pushes of the clutch, the clutch pedal gets pretty heavy. And will stay heavy unless I rev up gears.

I notice the clutch pedal also gets light when I stalled :P

As far as clutch slipping or engagement point, the clutch still feels extremely strong. It engages well even when soft.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you thought of bleeding the clutch?

Yup, start there

Slaves do go bad as do hoses, check for any wettness at the slave and fittings.....

And stop abusing your car by revving it so high (joking)

Also consider if your engagement point varies. I struggled with the dealer when I first bought my C2 because I had symptoms similar to yours, with the exception of the high revs causing a light pedal, but most noticable was the engagement point creeping closer to the floor while driving, especially during stop and go. They refused to believe it was the clutch slave because I had no leaks and two attempts at bleeding the system revealed that there was no air in the system. The car was under CPO at the time so I took it to a different dealer and they replaced the slave for me. That did take care of it, the value add was that my brake pedal feel also got firmer, my understanding is that the hydraulics for the clutch and brakes are all one circuit.

A lot of guys use the Motul 600 or the Castrol SRF. I use Motul. How are you flushing? Have a Motiv Power Bleeder? The bleeder screw for the clutch is on top of the tranny. Kinda hard to find but once you do you will always know where it is. Post back with results.

Will do, I don't have a Motiv Power Bleeder but I have a Mityvac. Was thinking about doing this one old school style with just a wrench and a tube. or does that not work?

Vacuum system.

Look at Pedros Garage for some pics and DIY on bleeding brakes/clutch.

Eduardo,

I flushed the fluids, including changing my tranny fluid and still have this problem. I will have to take out the tranny and see whats going on. Hopefully nothing crazy.

Let me know if you make any progress yourself.

The clutch has a booster spring above the pedal. This gives the pedal an artificial easy light feel that masks the friction point. I started a thread on removal of the booster spring which increases the pedal resistance slightly and gives true clutch feel, knowing exactly when the friction point is reached. This makes the car much easier to drive and eliminates killing the motor and problems starting out on hills and other embarassing clutch related issues. It's possible your spring is broken and causing intermittent effort reduction. You can search for the thread. GL
