As I shop for a set of OEM TT 17" wheels for my '99 996, I have been advised that all 996 bolt patterns are not the same. In other words, while wheel width, diameter, and offset are important, even bolt patterns may differ across the 996 model range.

One e-mail even referred to a "5 X 130" bolt pattern measurement.

Do 996 bolt patterns differ? Is there a measurement scheme for such things?

All modern Pcar bolt patterns are 5 X 130mm. What changes are the fitments due to body style, brakes, suspension components, etc...

There are Narrow Body ( NB) fitments, Wide (WB) fitments, GT3 fitments, which are mainly the offsets for the the rears, IIRC, front fitments are practically all the same. Pcars that come with PCCB's also require larger diameter wheels ( not 17's ) for clearance issues.

Tire sizes ( overall diameter) also affect AWD Pcars rather that the 2WD ones.

Also, I don't think there were 17inch TT wheels; unless they are replicas or from older series TT's. Moreover, check the offsets ( usually stamped next to the valve stem) and compare to your current wheels. If no offsets are stamped, then you'll have to do some measuring ( easier with wheels off the car).
Your 99 996 is a narrow body , correct? TT wheels pry won't work or else they'll stick beyond the wheel well edge.

I think you are looking at Audi "TT" wheels in 17 inch..... not 996 "TT" wheels. All Porsches since 65/66 have had a 5x130 bolt pattern except the latest centerlock cars which have a 5x130 drive pin set up.....

4 bolt 914s and 924s would differ with this statement.. then again.. they aren't "real" porsches

Porsche's 5x130 bolt pattern is NOT the most common 5-bolt pattern out there, so be sure that the wheels you consider DO fit this first. Then worry about widths, diameters and offsets. Your vehicles ride height and suspension components and tire sizes will also affect fitment.

relinluca meant to state 17" "twists", which there are some OEM wheels that look like Turbo twists but are basically 5 spoke wheels that came with 996's

I believe the early 996 and the Boxster were available with a 17" twist wheel.

I dont think there is enough clearance for 17"...

With 18" it barely fits a finger between brake and wheel.
