Default contemplating a 911/996 purchase

HI, new to the 911 forum. I used to own a 86.5 928. I just sold it and am thinking about a 911/996 purchase. Looking at years 2000-2002, this is more of my price range. Looking for some answers, maybe a starting point for research, is this is a good choice for me?

Some questions I have:

What is maintenance like?
Are there any commom problems to be aware of?
Are their specific big ticket item fixes/maintenance( in the 928 it is belt replacement)

I saw a thread for pre purchase inspection, i will definetly take a look at that.

anyone that can shead some light, please do.

thanks

A whole lot cheaper than a 928, dats for damned sure!

Seriously, you need to search on issues related to IMS and RMS. No need to rehash here, there are plenty of threads (and plenty of opinions). If it scares you, run away. If not jump in, the water's fine.

You will love it! dont freak out about the "IMS" just get it done if you change the clutch one day...otherwise its a very reliable dependable car

996 sucks!

you wont be spending all your money taking care of it and will have time and money....it leads to driving and modding the car which only leads to more modding and driving... total crap because you turn it into a really fun car and then have no time for "old friends" because you are out at the track with your "new friends"

I advise turning on the TV and drinking a beer and putting one hand down your pants like Al Bundy - forget about the 996 !

Maintenance - Not major - Oil changes, Brakes, etc. Lots of it can be DIY
Common problems - as others pointed do a search. IMS, RMS...
Big Ticket Items - IMS, RMS... bla bla bla

I cannot compare to 928 but the 996 is a newer model and awesome DD!!! I believe very reliable if well maintained
