Porsche Pep Talk for Wife - Soon to be 996er!
So, here's what happened. In the lead up to the GT3 purchase, the plan was to trade in the C4 Cab. Ultimately, per the initial plan, Katie was going to get rid of her Maxima for a BMW 135 or 335 coupé. Well, somewhere in the process she had the idea, which admittedly I had thought also, but dared not say, that she just take the C4 as her daily driver and forgo the bimmer.
Okay, great idea, I love the cabriolet and was not at all excited to see it go so this was huge awesome.
Here's the problem, she couldn't really drive a stick shift. But we are almost there! To her credit, she has been practicing in my company Scion xB and has made a great deal of progress. But, so far she has only driven the Pcar in a parking lot.
But hopefully today will be the day! Sun is shining, forecast calls for high of 61, she is listed as my secondary member on my PCA membership, she has a Porsche hat of her own, and sunglasses to match the car.
So, if anyone has any pearls of wisdom or advice for my soon to be very fast wife, share away!

Find a seldom used country road with very little traffic, have your wife drive with you in the passenger seat, and just let her drive and shift on her own at her pace. In the meantime, you should refrain from making any comments unless your wife is asking for help...relax. Soon she'll gain confidence and ability and wll be asking you to drive the GT3 instead.

OH - Tip:
I used this on every person I taught stick to. - parking or open area with no cars, doensnt have to be too large. Give them one foot only....the clutch....no gas...from a dead stop let the clutch out till till it is fully out, then back in.. stop and repeat... for 20-30 minutes after that it's easy....
what it teaches it the feel of the engagement point and how to fether it in, clutch wear = very little (no gas, high rpm slipping) the foot will learn to release enough to engage, and keep the motor running....its like magic, taught about 6-7 people that way

The only one that can break the 996 is me.

Update: She logged 20 miles so far this morning, couple country roads, no stalls and only a few shudders.
Towards the end of the drive she got up to 70 after a few quick clean shifts.... Then I saw the madness start to take hold!

Very nice collection! Glad you will keep the Cab! Its so cool when a woman can drive standard transmission. My wife does too so that allows me to have a few manual cars at home

You're very lucky to have two beauts! Contgrats to both of you for learning something new, and patiently supporting the newness! As has been said, it's only a clutch and I think you two will be so much happier in two p-cars!
