Default Integrated dry sump...huh?

An old Panorama article covering the 996's introduction says it has an "integrated dry sump" system. Does that mean it does not have an oil reservoir tank like my 993 had?

Just curious.

No separate oil tank. It's just Porsche's way of saying it has a wet sump.

I'd say Porsche's explanation could be misleading. Technically oil is kept separate from the crankshaft, and there's one or two scavenge pumps in each head (later cars having the extras) in addition to the main pressure pump, though there is not an external tank. So it's not a "traditional" wet sump, but it's certainly not a dry sump either.
