Videos and Pics of the race & spin out @ Ft Devens airfield autocross
Did my first autocross yesterday at Fort Devens Airfield at the last PCA NE event of the season.
Some observations:
1. I now fully understand why people who track Porsches end up being so addicted to Porsches and then modifying it like hell.
2. I appreciate my car MUCH more than I ever had before. It is WAAY more capable than what I think most people ever expect out of the car
3. Number 2 makes it easy to become overconfident of the car
4. PSM off is much more challenging
5. Autocrosses aren't very friendly to newbies Took me a while to figure out where to go, how to get started, the instructors weren't terribly helpful
6. GREAT camaraderie between aircooled guys and watercooled guys - everyone commented on how beautiful one anothers cars were.
Enjoy:
A 996 C4S on a hot run but spins out at station 4 entering the slalom too hot...

I'll post a video of my final run as soon as youtube finishes processing it

I was going to go to that but my folks were in town. My 40th is back in FL though; I would have been in the 325! It's funny because last PCA autox I did, my 944 was broken and I drove my girlfriend's mom's 330i which was at the very least manual.
Looks like I missed out!

For you PSM guys, does anyone else notice that the car pre-boosts the brake pedal when it gets scared? If you are really getting into it and sliding a bit, the car will take slack out of the brake pedal even if PSM is "off." I hover over the brake pedal with my left foot (because lets face it, how often do you shift out of 2nd in an autocross) so I occassionally notice the thing moving around or will be extra-sensitive when I go to just brush it to get the nose in. I found it really distracting at first but now it's just amusing.
