I did this, and then the wife made me put at least one side back in because apparently it's not safe to put my kid back there without a seatback. I run around with one in one out, no bottom pad, justthe seatback. She rides in the booster seat.

It's all about weight for me so 10 pounds saved is better than nothing.

In your photos I see that you left in the centre pivot point. That should really be removed as well you know. It's easy to remove, it doesn't look great, it adds weight, and you could get caught up on it if you ever "got busy" in the back seat with a girl or something.
