Lightbulb For Sale: bolt-in carbon sunroof plug

I made this myself out of 2 layers of carbon with a 2mm foam sandwich between a third layer of carbon. It follows the roof form perfectly. It could use another layer of resin to give it a perfectly smooth finish, but from a couple feet away it looks darn good as you can see from the pics. I made this because I wanted a panel I could just bolt right in with the original hardware, and caulk it in, which permits a completely reversible solution should I ever reinstall the original sunroof system. It allows you to remove the sunroof panel, and all the mechanicals (track, motor, etc.), to save about 25lbs off the roof of the car as this weighs maybe 1 pound. Works great with a black silicone sealer which easily comes off without harming the paint if you decide to remove it later. The interior portion is rough but can be easily covered with a non-sunroof headliner or even just a fabric cover in the plug, if desired. It's good and solid - no issues going 140mph with the windows down.

I'd like to get $200 plus shipping charges. Please PM me if interested!

No thank you. I have seen stock sun roofs blow in at the Texas Mile. Happened last year. Not pretty.

If you have nothing positive to add, why not keep it to yourself and let the guy sell his item?

Wow, do they have a "no-sunroof" rule on that road (or whatever the Texas Mile is)? I'd imagine very few cars could drive there.

So this sunroof plug would be perfect then for those like function12 who drive the Texas Mile where you can supposedly see stock sunroofs blow out. As I mentioned before, I hit 130-140 about 20-30 times in succession and it's solid, even with the windows down (at Cal Speedway, for those interested).

Hmmm, 14 year old thread... You think he's still making these? Highly doubtful. In fact it's highly doubtful he's still on this forum... maybe try to PM him! Good Luck

If you look at the threads he’s posted you’ll see he’s still on here.

Regardless, there are no options for this so I am trying everything. Nobody makes a sunroof plug for the 996/997.

It cost me nothing to inquire about it.

I'm certainly on here... once a Porsche fan... always! But this thread makes me feel old!

And no, sorry, I do not have the part anymore. I ended up going with a GT3 roof skin which was only about $250 from the dealer back when I bought it. The original roof with the carbon plug I had stored in my attic until about 5 or so years ago.

The plug was just fine until I was running the car with a race organization required a roof net if a non-steel roof was in place. Considering the cost of the non-sunroof roof at the time, and how cool it was to have a non-sunroof C2, and the headroom gains of the steel roof, it was an easy decision!
