Amazing how modern the 996 looked compared to the M3 back in '02! Still looks good in the recent photo - love the color!
Good luck with the newer one!

You r right. I thought the m3 was like an "all weather interceptor". It got me through the great " el niño" year of '97 when I was commuting for work between LA and san diego back then. It was so stable and plenty of torque down below on revs. It sounded great too. The original pilot mxx3's tires were very grippy and better than the pilots that replaced them a few yrs later, until ps2's came along. I still do have my first car, '87 vw GTI-16v, in bad need of restoration. Again, wish still had car #2 & 3

Nordschleife Master
But in all honesty I think both BMW and Audi's are exceptional cars and each has their own advantages. I just thought it was funny to add this photo to the mix.... All in humor guys (I know how you Bimmer guys can get your panties in a bunch.)

I'm still a BMW and Porsche owner here. Who says you have to give up one for the other.

Wait, the cup holders look like an early car's as well, no? I presume that change may have happened in 97 as well...
I am going to disagree with you guys here. I think the e36 M3 may have been the worst inclement weather car I've ever been around. I used to see one wrecked on track every time it rained. I think the fact that you never see them in the snow up north is telling. I took a trip in a snow storm to Massachusetts a few years ago, I did not see another BMW for several days on the road. I enjoy having an e36 M3 sideways when traction is reduced (or not, come to think of it, what a marvelous, playful car), but there are many cars I'd pick before that car in the wet if the task at hand is to go fast, obviously starting with the 911...
