That would be too late if you plan to keep the car afterwards. The IMSB retrofit is supposed to be a preventive maintenance before anything goes bad.

If you have not, I highly recommend you read this http://imsretrofit.com/ims-101/
and everything else on that website. This will give you very good background info on IMS.

Just read it. It is the best info all in one place that I have seen yet. Thanks.

LeNoah,

Check with TruSpeed over by the airport in Costa Mesa. That's who I'd take mine to. They gave me a quote w/ clutch and flywheel (if needed) of $4K.

Nevermind. Just checked and they closed their service division last year and are only focused on racing...

Just curious, is there a way to install a single row IMS in a dual row engine or vice versa, or are the bearings sufficiently poke yoked that they will not install correctly?

I believe there is a kit for that, however, why in the world would you want to replace a very durable long lasting dual row bearing with a single row? The dual row is the bearing to have. The single row bearing is the weakest link. There is a really small percentage of dual rows that have failed, and one could probably chalk it up to either lack of use or poor maintenance (oil changes).

Mostly concerned with a shop putting in a single because thats what is in stock or because they ordered the wrong part.

For the older design with the dual row bearing (MY 99-01?), only a dual row bearing will fit. The LN kit for those engines is a dual row.

For the newer design with a single row (MY 02-05), there are single row replacements, like the older LN kit. There is also an LN Pro kit that replaces it with a dual row bearing that fits where the single row normally would. That is what I recommend getting if you have those model years.

I think for 2001, it could have either bearing and it is important for the shop to get the correct one, but I don't think the wrong one will physically fit.

Surgery prep. They dropped the engine for separate reason, gave a good look though

3.6L from an 03 C2

the new bearing

got greedy and added the IPD plenum, sway bars, spark plugs, half a dozen new seals, AOS unit, etc. Excited to get it back in proper condition with maybe a little better performance.

Atypical IMSB question.

The urge to disassemble my bearing is really getting to me. Is it possible to remove the cages, take it apart, and then put it all back together again?

Default Which Bearing? LN or Porsche v3

Hi All,

Had my M96, 2002 C4S destroy itself, so rebuilding as we speak,

Now not sure which IMS bearing to use, either the Porsche version from '06 onward or use the LN product?

My local Porsche dealer is doing the rebuild (although we have done a LN upsize to 3.8!)

So default is to use the Porsche option, but understand they too have a minor failure rate

oh what to do....

Thanks for any thoughts

Just do the IMS Solution plain bearing and be done with IMSB for good. A few hundred bucks more is nothing compared to the rest of the rebuild.
