Default Does this sound like the infamous windshield squeak?

Recently I've noticed on my 01 TT that there is what I describe as a chatter coming from the dash/windshield area. It occurs at very low speed, almost when the car starts rolling. I've tried pressing on the dash areas and defroster cover but doesn't change.

It's not really a squeak or loud rattle just a "ch,ch,ch, chatter"! And no, it's not my wife in the passenger seat.

Does this sound like the infamous windshield noise? If so, I'll order up the poly-cord and try that.

Thanks for the feedback.

would be nice to have it on video... with sound

I remember watching a show on how they build the rollsroyce phantom and they were making a point that the whole dashboard is only one piece to avoid squeek and rattle... when I see all those lego parts on the 996, I wonder how it doesn't rattle even more

Not aware of an infamous windshield noise with the 996 Turbo. I am aware at least in the case of my car while it was with the 1st owner the car had a noise problem that was traced to the sun/moon roof.

When I bought the car I received paperwork with the CPO packet that detailed the effort the tech went to -- over several visits -- to identify the noise source and what he did to alleviate the noise: Judicious application of some heavy felt in a few areas quieted the car right down.

Sincerely,

Macster.

My C4S just started making a chatter or rattle from the front dashboard, near the instrument cluster. I can't tell if it's coming from the windshield or the dash. It almost sounds like a hamster running in a squeaky wheel.

Does anybody have any additional information about this windshield squeak and the effectiveness of the aforementioned poly-cord?

Mine does it too. Very annoying. Today a passenger was feeling around and put her finger on the speaker grill and it stopped. But the grill is tight... I think its one of those appears to be "this" and its not. Going to look at it more tomorrow

I think I've isolated my noise to the instrument pod/cluster. While driving on the highway, I can generally get the noise to stop if I press down on the top of the pod.

Well, no luck chasing it down. The instrument cluster has been removed, all the clips have been checked and replaced as necessary and some felt material has been put into all the likely spots. The next step is to start pulling apart the dash, and I'm not really ready to do that right now.

Dennis

I am experiencing something very similar. I think that it might be the defroster vent cover.

That's my project for tomorrow. I have to go get felt though.
