I saw it and thought, "Damn, I hope that wasn't on there before I paid the shop to 'replace' the old one..."

I think I discovered what the back seats were designed for.

This boggles my mind a bit. Had you never used reverse before, or were you putting it in 6th trying to reverse, and wondering why it always stalled?

Or you thought there were two reverse gears?

justhad never driven a 6 speed before anad hadn't had much freeway time--5th took me more then fast enough to get a ticket--I've had to glance at the online manual for lots of things--sure is nice tacking low now with the cruise control on to keep me away from Tickets--have been pulled over twice sine I bought the car--when they couldn't read my temp registration in the back window--rhe dealer took a month to send the title to my bank and I'm still not in the system when I get pulled over

So, yesterday I learned if your sun shade slips while the car is locked, it can (and did) set off the alarm. Luckily I was at home and it wasn't 2 in the morning.

On both my cars, when filling up gas at California pumps, it clicks off due to back pressure before completely full. I had to hold the rubber neck back from the opening to let air escape between it and the filler neck. My vents have been cleaned and are unblocked. Everyone I know has this issue (996TT's, 997 GT3's, Boxster Spyders, etc.).

If you insert the nozzle then rotate it 90 degrees so it's upside down, there will be a little gap at the top of the filler neck, and you can fill all the way up without it clicking off prematurely. You will have to stand there and make sure the nozzle doesn't fall over and out, but it won't click off and you won't get gas fumes on your hands.

Default 2004 and newer speedos are different from earlier ones

2004 was the only year that had one touch operation and would operate at speed. If you swap an older speedo with your 2004 996, the top only works when driving, not while stopped. The reason is that the newer speedos send a 0.5 MPH signal to the newer controllers. Without a motion signal to the new controller, the top will not operate. You can get a older top controller, or go to Mods4Cars for a solution. After a year on every Porsche forum I could think of, Mods4Cars told me what the problem was immediately and had a solution.
