Default Horn sensitivity . . . ??

Maybe I'm just going crazy, but my horn seems to be getting more sensitive. I don't think my driving style has changed in the 2 years I've had this car, but now when I turn right or left I sometimes barely touch the horn pad and the horn toots . . . . Seems all I have to do is stare at it and it goes off.

Anyone else experiencing this?

+1 for bad bushings

There are rubber parts between the metal of the horn and the bracket that hold the airbag to the steering wheel. They degrade and the area between the contacts gets closer and closer... At some point the rubber might even degrade to the point that the horn honks from simply applying the brakes...

There are some "home fixes" on Renntech, or you can replace the part. It seems to me that it was about $100 but dont quote me on that one

GL - OH by the way its a simple fix that almost any person should be able to complete - no need for the Porsche Tax from the dealer

Same thing happened to my GF's Boxster. People were giving her mean looks in traffic.

Definitely the horn bushings. Best price was from Sunset Imports in Oregon, I just ordered mine and it was around $60 shipped.

Looks like I have to order horn bushings.

Apply brakes, activate horn.

Here's the link to the renntech discussion on fixes. In a nutshell, the expensive solution is to buy the replacement frame and the frugal solution is to fill the existing bushings with black silicone sealer.

I've been dealing with this a lot lately. Last Saturday on a nice quick drive I was getting a quick "honk!" on the cattle guards....in addition to time when I just slightly leaned the palm of my hand on the corner of the wheel.

Something to do this weekend!

Thanks, Tom.

Looks like I have to buy black silicone sealer, instead.

This place is the best.
