Your battery will drain faster having the car locked than it will unlocked.

I'm calling BS on this one.

Locking the car engages the alarm system, including interior movement sensors, and this gives increased current draw on the battery.

Unlocked is better for your battery.

Agreed. I can't see how leaving the car unlocked drains battery. I 'can' see how leaving the ignition in the car without first pulling it out all the way and then reinserting 'does' drain the battery more quickly.

On a somewhat related note, I found out that if I close the car door, then pull the key out, then walk away without locking the car, all the interior lights will stay lit for over 2 hours. To make sure all the interior lights go out after a 30 second delay either remove the key before closing the car door, or lock the car as you walk away.

I leave the keys to all three cars in my garage in the center console so I don't have to wonder where I left them. I guess I'm not real worried that somebody is going to break into my house and steal my cars.
