Default remoteTOP... Need E12 Torx Socket!!

Other than the Bumper & Door Plugs, my lovely wife also gave me a remoteTOP for my birthday today... yes, she is a great wife!!!

Tried to install the unit and wasn't able to get to the box under the drivers seat by pushing the seat forward... has anybody been able to get to this box in a 2003 cab with putting the seat in it's most forward position?

The second option for installing (see attached link as well) is by unscrewing the E12 Torx screws in the seat rails... for this you need an E12 Torx Socket... went to Sears, HD and Lowe's and nobody had ever seen a socket like this.

HELP... what am I doing wrong; should I be able to get to the box or else, where do I find an E12 Torx Socket... (I know Wilhelmy sells them for $25, but that seems a little steep), and I would like to get this installed pronto.

Thx!

You get the E12 Torx pretty much at any tool place...I got mine at Sears....for a whole lot cheaper than $25. Even if you can get at the box under the seat, its still hard to re-install without taking tipping the seat ..save yourself the aggravation and do the install with the seat off the rails....

you don't have to take the seat out or losen it to add the module.....I just put the chair in the most backwards position unscrewed the small screw (hard to reach)...then put the seat in the most forward position and pull the "black box" towards you...should work this way.

maar als je een Nederlander bent en in NC woont....mhhhhhhh! dan is alles misschien een beetje moeilijker!! LOL

I concur heartily with those who recommend removing the seat bolts and tilting it back. I know Wilhelmy says it can be done, but I sure couldn't do it with the seat in place. Too many delicate pins that could be bent as you plug in the module.

For the E12, I would try some place that more specializes in mechanics tools than HD and Lowes .... they're just going to have the most common. I ordered one on the web .... Wiha Tools (thanks to Loren at RennTech for that source.

While waiting, though, I just went to my friendly indy shop and borrowed one.

I got a good set from Autozone for use with my socket set.

Can't remember the exact cost, but around $25 for range of sizes.

Same deal available from AMAZON

Well worth having if you own a P Car, or any Euro model for that matter.

You'll need them eventually!

Chris.

Well spotted Loren - posted before I'd had my first Latte!

Post corrected with correct link and picture.

Sears has a set made by Lisle. They are not displayed where normal sockets are.

Well, after 2 Sears stores, a HD, a Lowes, 3 calls to different Autozone stores, I finally found my socket at a NAPA store!! Found a bunch of places on the web as well to buy the socket, but I'm too eager to get this little project done and use my remoteTOP... just can't wait for the couple of days of shipping!

Thx for input!
