Exclamation 1st service interval

I was wondering if it's worth it to get the first service interval (15000 miles / 1 year) at a Porsche dealer? I've noticed the price could be anywhere between $425 ~ $500+ depending on which dealership you go to.

However what bothers me is that for this price it (so I've heard) consist of them inspecting certain areas of the car, changing the oil and oil filter, and topping of fluids. Makes $425 sound excessive.

Any advice? Don't know if this matters, but I am located in Los Angeles.

If your car is under 15K miles, just change the oil. I believe the dealer 15K mile service doesn't even include a oil filter change. I did my 15K service 2.5 years after delivery. In between I've changed the oil and air filter (this was only because of one incedent where alot of dust/dirt got into the box.)

Question

I've wondered myself if it's OK to wait so long for the first oil change at 15,000 miles. Thinking of taking the car in early at 7500 miles (an ordeal since the dealer is 2 hrs away) and having the brake pads checked since I live on a mountain and getting the oil changed, even at the high prices.

(Don't tell me to do the change myself, I've already gotten that advice and I'm not inclined to... burned out on work from previous Porsches for now :-P )

Thanks for the advice,

Michael

I did my first service at somewhere around 7,500 miles. I went to Otto in Venice California and had him change the oil and filter as well as the pollen filter. He checked out a bunch of other stuff (fluid levels etc.) and discovered a water leak on the passenger side that I didn't even know about. I had to go to a dealer to get that remedied.

I plan to do my next service at around 15,000, also at Otto, or maybe Ogner (Porsche dealer) 'cause their closer.

I had Ogner (Woodland Hills) do an oil/filter change @ ~7500 miles--$185. Their 15K service was $378.50 total. (2000 996 C2)

I read an extended road test review of the 996 by one of the major magazines and they had put something like 50,000 miles on the car since delivery. They estimated that front brake pad life on the 996 is around 100k miles. Sounds hard to believe but if after 50k miles there was that much pad left, I wouldn't worry @ 7500 miles.

It's ever 15k OR annually, whichever comes FIRST.
