Default '00 battery

Hi folks,

I think my '00 996 battery had died. Do I have to replace it with a genuine
porsche battery? Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

A $50 battery from Sam's or similar retailer is more than you need. Porsche does not make batteries. It's a personal preferance whether you get a vented or non vented one.

I bought a 47 from Costco and it is vented. A whopping $45! And the weight savings of the 47 are great if that is something you are looking for.

Pics attached.

Thanks Dell,
I noticed that the battery is smaller from your picture. How do you mount it in-place?

If you notice the close up picture (the one on the right) there is a brass clamp that bolts into the battery tray at several points. YOu can see from the battery tray there is another 3 holes to the left in case you have a larger battery. Neg side of battery slides to the side and locks into place and is secured with the brass clamp.

And given the proximaty of the battery to the cabin air intake be absolutely sure that vent tube is hooked up correctly!

And if you haven't done this before be sure and clean and burnish(**) the battery posts and the connections before installing the new battery.

**repeat each spring.

Mine died this summer and I went to Costco for the replacement but they were out of stock. Ended up with one from Autonation for $65. Install was simple.
