You're opening up a huge can of "whoop ***" on your wallet. :-)
First ya wanna determine where ya wanna be. I went full RS LWFW, 764PP, & 4.0 disc. I am pretty much immune to "NVH", and really think it's not bad at all. I have zero complaints with it. Not sure what a DMFW cost. Go to any of the reputable distributors (RL trusted,sponsoring) and search your car, what parts you need/want, and then shop for best prices. Simply searching "best price for Sachs 764 pressure plate for 993 turbo" will yield lots of results.

Taking it to a knowledgable independent mechanic will probably set you back around $3500-$4000 for all parts and labor for a new clutch. Parts are about $1700-$2000, and the labor will be about the same as well.

Since you'll probably drop the engine for the work, you can easily add much more cost with the "while the engine's already out....." syndrome. I would definitely do spark plugs wires, which are easier to do with the engine out. Also, new rear main seal for sure. I know there's more, but I'd replace any/all wear item parts that are hard to do with the engine in, and easy to do with the engine out.

Surprised that your clutch is slipping. Wasn't your motor just rebuilt or replaced by RMG? The condition of your clutch was not inspected?

You do not need to drop the motor to get he new clutch in. FYI.

Talk to Kevin ay UMW, he puts together a nice clutch set-up for the 993 Turbo.

the clutch at time of rebuild had about 80kmiles on it...was okay.

it now has about 140k on it

362k on the car

first clutch lasted 245k

That's technically true, but many mechanics prefer to take the engine out on an AWD car, as it is easier to work on the clutch with the engine dropped. Also, with the engine out, it makes replacing parts that are easier with the engine out far more simple, which can mitigate the extra money to drop/install the engine.

Personally, if you have a mechanic you trust, I'd defer to his knowledge as to what parts should be replaced if the engine is dropped.

There are some good answers already. I would probably follow the advice and see if there are other things needed if the engine needs to be dropped for the clutch change.

True. Mike J mentioned that he drops the gearbox instead IIRC.

A factory clutch kit (pressure plate, disc, bolts, release bearing) from places like Sunset Porsche is about $925. Does not include flywheel.

Darin and Mark, did my clutch, while leaving engine in. My car has pretty much, most compliance removed. It was a bear, and they both agreed, next time "the whole unit comes out, as one". Constant adjusting, moving/removing items, to finally get er out. :-0
