Default Kinematic toe

Thought I would post something technical as there's a lot of price type threads...

Playing with my suspension and had a brain fart and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get my Kinematic toe gauge (motorsport copy) to fit. Took me a little bit of head scratching to figure it out

To use the kinematic toe gauge on a lowered car, you need to raise your car partially (in a lowered car) or if your car is in the air have your wheel raised (with the sway bar disconnected) - so that the toe arm is horizontal. You can't measure the Kinematic toe or use the gauge unless the toe arm is horizontal - it won't fit/it hits the lower suspension arm.

more stuff on kinematic toe in this old thread if interested.

I just got my KT from FD M.... and I don't have much idea how to setup it (I believe it didn't come with the documentation/guide) but glad you posted this as it will help me to figure out the use of the tool quicker. Once I have a spare time, I will load my TT on the lift to do the aligment.

I guess the idea is to use a level on the toe arm first until it's bang on, and then read the gauge?

Yup, that's what I did but in the shop manual (where they talk about the 993 rs suspension), I think the wording is 'about horizontal'.

Good luck with that. First of all u have to understand what ktoe is! It is NOT measured with the suspension unloaded! A LOT got lost in translation with the 993 manuals from German to English, lol.

Hi Bernie!

I think he was measuring it with the suspension loaded, or at least loaded to get the toe arm horizontal.

Do you do it with the car's weight fully on the wheels regardless of the toe arm angle (given the guys who slam their cars will have the arms slanted the wrong way when the weight is on ...)?

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Bernie!

^ yup, car's too low, have to raise the car a little (get the toe arm horizontal) to get the gauge to fit. I don't think I changed the ride height much since you set it up a few years ago.
