Epic road trip w/ my 993TT
Just returned home from an epic road trip with my '96 993TT.
I appreciate all the chatter on the forum here about the market values of our cars, cars wanted or for sale, gnashing of teeth whether to sell or not. As the fortunate owner of several air cooled 911s (and always enjoy learning about others cars) I read these threads and occasionally chime in.
This is not one of those threads. This is about an absolutely joyous 4-day road trip I got to take with my best pal from college. We live on opposite coasts at this point in life and have families, jobs, etc which mean we don't get to hang out as often as we might like. But spending a few days of driving together was awesome.
Covered over 1,300 miles through western Virginia, western Tennessee, and eastern North Carolina. We hit all kinds of beautiful and fun to drive roads from Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park, a portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway, US 421 (aka "The Snake") in TN, Tail of the Dragon, Moonshine 28, and more. We checked out cool towns like Asheville NC and Knoxville TN. Asheville on a Friday night is a great time, incredible scene for craft brews, food, etc. If you live in this part of the country... good on 'ya, and thanks very much for the hospitality these last few days. If you haven't checked out this part of the U S of A, definitely make time in your life to do so at some point.
Anyway, just thought I'd share these pics on the forum. I can't think of a better way to put a thousand plus miles on the odometer... one doesn't really think about depreciation too much when you're grinning ear to ear.
Biggest fireworks store I've ever seen (Bristol, TN)
Mural in Knoxville TN
Scenic outlook at the northwestern end of Tail of the Dragon
Killboy gift shop at the southeastern end of Tail of the Dragon
Fontana Dam, part of TVA system and tallest dam east of the Rockies
A 993TT not only kills bugs fast, it also makes objects in mirror get smaller very quickly
Thirsty Monk, one of the brewpubs we hit in Asheville NC. Yes one of their bar snacks is "pint of bacon"... as the bartender said as we studied the menu, don't overthink it.

Indeed. Though I am fortunate to have a modified 981 Boxster and an old vintage racer from the late '50s, so I track those cars. The 993TT lives a life of just fun weekend drives, occasional work commute, and the occasional grand touring like this or a PCA rally I did last year.

Awesome, I've driven those roads (in one of the first 135i) and they are fantastic. Taking my tt to the wilds of VT in the fall so looking forward to similar enjoyment!

Sounds like a great trip! I can't remember the last time I saw photos or discussion of one of these being used as a *gasp* means of transportation.

WHAT?!!!!! You actually drove your tt, put over 1000 miles and drove it in the rain. But what about the depreciation?! These aren't driving cars, these are collecting cars. Hold them, cherish them and make them more desirable for the next person!
Awesome work! Bet you can't wait to do it again. These cars are a blast to drive.
