Default squeeling screeching sound on start-up, Steering Pump?

Hey Guys:

Looking for a little feedback on a problem that I only noticed today. Shortly after startup on two 1/2 hour drives today and also when revving the engine in neutral I experienced quite a bit of a loud screeching sound. The engine, brakes, clutch, and steering always felt 100% but of course the sound was bothersome for as long as it lasted (10-20 seconds). This seemed to mostly dissipate by the end of the second 1/2 hour ride with only a very light screeching sound when revved at a standstill. Any idea of what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

That's a nice thought Scott.... I hope it is as simple as that. I have never done any mechanical work on a car such as this but I guess it should be pretty easy to check with the engine cover open.

There's a few possibilities.
belt sensor bearing
Alternator bearing
Electric fan
Or loose belt as Scott suggests.

Less likely based on description of sound, but I had a similar experience. It turned out to be fan contacting shroud due to shaft bearing.

Thanks very much guys. Now, I just have to arrange to get it into my local indy. I'll report back on the outcome after.

I had a similar sound on start up and turned out to be the alternator.

It was the ..................................................

BELT !
Thank you guys for all the input. Today I took the car to work (which never happens) just so that I
could go and see my local indy afterwards for a proper diagnosis. Unfortunately, the old belt had let go and the car completely died with less than a kilometre to go. I was more than a little nervous waiting curb side in the dark for my car to be towed on a well travelled road, with no hazard lights. However all is well and baby turbo is purring like a kitten once again. Happy motoring everyone!
