Default RUF Turbo R... Turbo S wing or 993tt stock wing?

Well I bought this rear deck lid wing early on (oem Porsche stock 993tt) but never installed.... always loved that whale tale. Not that the TURBO S wing is bad by any means, just always liked the 993TT wing. As many know the car is up for sale but I am enjoying it while I have it and now making the swap.... test fit looks good, off to paint later.... sorry for the terrible pics, but its dark here in Newport RI... hope all is well fellow rennlisters'

Will post better pics once complete! If for what ever reason not happy with it, (dont see that happening but always an if) then the Porsche Turbo S wing goes right back on!

Personally I like the stock wing Mick.

Full disclosure on my bias though....

Both wings look great on the car. However, since you have the Turbo S air inlets on the fender, I think the Turbo S wing is appropriate.

Default good point

I hear you but just feel the turbo S inlets which look amazing get lost with yet more round like air ducts in the wing.... we'll see once its mounted.

I am taking the latch piece from the turbo S wing and adding it to the 993tt wing, hoping they are the same.... anyone know? The strike that catched the latch on car to keep it closed etc.... thanks all

Latch is the same, maybe if you get rid of the sideskirts the S wing will look better, imho, cheers.

I always liked the stock turbo wing as well. From an airflow point of view however, The S-wing makes better downforce with less drag, and was Ruf recommended to match the front downforce better. Not that I drive fast enough to notice the difference.

I go back and forth on this a lot. I am contemplating trying out a turbo s wing, which of course would require me to buy one and paint it... I personally think with he ruf bumpers the S wing goes better, with that being said I am going to stick with the normal turbo wing for now and be jealous of your car

The downforce statement is most likely correct but less drag most likely incorrect, there is no data out there, all we know is that on the subsequent turbo S aerodynamics "more downforce" was always claimed so it makes sense that the 993 S aero package produces less lift and maybe a bit of downforce. More drag though not less makes sense but being Porsche the drag penalty is likely very little

Ruf does not have aero numbers for his 993 add ons and will not offer any statements regarding downforce - or at least Marc Bongers wouldn't when I quizzed him.

One of the few bits of Porsche "data" referring to 993 turbo aerodynamics

I have a question since we are talking about wings. My car came with the factory Turbo S wing, was thinking about picking up the whale tail version, should I keep to factory or is a MA shaw in carbon fiber just as good since I have on orig factory part to stay with the car?

^^ go with non-OEM. Price and quality is good and even if you match OEM it's not in your build sheet.

I had an S wing on my turboR. Thought it complemented the RUF bodywork very well, but it's a totally personal choice. BTW, I got a similar response from Marc Bongers when I asked the same question as Toby.
