Default Oil Smell

I've only had my tt for a month and have only driven it 200 miles. When I have the windows up and i'm using the air-conditioning, I think I can smell oil. After driving it around today, I smelled my t-shirt and it smelled like car exhaust. Nothing horrible but not the car I want to take to work when wearing a suit. I had a PPI done at the local Porsche dealer and they found no oil leaks to worry about.

Is this normal for 993's?

My wife hated going out in my 993's because they "stink"...get used to it She went out in my Corvette last night for the first time and her exact words were, "I love this car...it doesn't stink!"

That doesn't sound right!

I can easily drive around all day and no smell on my clothes too.

A proper running 993 won't do that. I know, because my car did do that for awhile after I bought it, and once everything was in proper order it didn't (and doesn't) anymore.

Why are you going to the dealer in L.A.? 1,001 great indy's there that know WTH they're doing when it comes to air-cooled's.

BTW, saw your earlier posts and that is a beautiful car! Enjoy!

No smell on mine either. I would check the rubber tubes on the under side.

All air-cooled Porsches have a distinct smell, for sure. My 993 has the same interior smell as my dad's 356 that he had during my childhood.

My kids still get in my 993, take a deep breath, and say "I love the way this car smells!" Good kids!

This is NOT normal......my TT never has made my clothes smell like car exhaust. I wear (pretty expensive ) suits to the office and would never subject them to any kind of "smell" on my drive to work.

mongrelcat - I was in a pinch time wise when I did the PPI. One of the mechanics at my Porsche dealer has a 96tt and was someone I spoke to before I even started looking for one. I agree that local indy's are the way to go from here on out .

What did you do to fix the problem?

Just to be clear...my cars did not smell like exhaust, but they did have a distinct odor that I have smelled in most 993's that I have stuck my head into. On a hot day and on long drives, I definitely could smell that odor on my clothes. Others have posted about their wives complaining about the "smell of the mistress" or something along those lines...

Ditto & my wife doesn't complain either. plus she has the nose of a bloodhound. She can smell if I've had a vodka gimlet from across the room.

El Guapo smells only of leather. Frank did smell a little like leather and oil. but not enough to make clothing smell.

My car tells me like it is. Like he is Ron Burgundy...

The smell is unique to 993 cars
