Default 993tt Radio Upgrade w/ Nokia HIFI amp

Gentlemen,

Would you happen to know if this harness will allow me to upgrade to an aftermarket stereo (I'm considering the toronto 420bt) and retain the Nokia HiFi amplifier? I'm trying to avoid modifying the oem wiring.

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/HRC-POR.html

Thanks for your help!

From (hazy) memory a radio with DIN connectors such as these will be plug and play

From the plethora of wires coming out of the back of this radio you will probably have to cut off the OEM plug/s and crimp to the OE harness.

Here's a photo the OE radio connectors.

Gah, that's a lot of wires. The photo you posted is of a CDR-210 w/ the Nokia hifi amp?

It's the original 1995 CR-1 radio with Nokia under seat amp.

FYI the connecting plug on the amp is 25 pin using the OE wiring harness -- yes, lots of wires.

Ok, thanks very much. I need to just go ahead and pull my CDR-210 to see if the wiring differs.

Its totally different than the picture above (posting #5). Power/control is the black connector, speakers the yellow connector, and aux input is through another connector which is not shown. That is only used if you have the CD in your trunk or an iPod interface. The connectors you looked looks correct to attach to the factory harness:

Cheers,

Mike

Great! Well that makes it simple then. I won't even need a separae aux connector b/c the toronto 420bt already has a couple of usb connectors. Thanks guys!

OK -- Let's know how you get one -- hopefully it's plug and play

I had a Blaupunkt Toronto in my '97, and it was definitely plug and play with the Nokia Hi Fi amp.

How did this work out? Interested in getting a Blau myself.

Can the display be changed to Amber to better match the interior lighting?

The radio worked out fine in terms of installation and operation. I didn't love the look (in my opinion too modern and kinda cheap looking) or the sound (bright and thin) with the stock amp and speakers, so I changed it out for a Becker.

The display color can be changed. However, it's been a while since I had this radio and I don't recall if amber is one of the choices. If I recall correctly the color options were in the blue, green and red range, as well as black and white.

Which Becker did you put in?

Pardon the ignorant question, did 96 have the Nokia amp? I'll have to go to the other house and check- was it under the passenger seat? Reason I ask is I saw some later models with some amp controls in the drivers door console. Wasn't sure if that was an add on.

I put in a reconditioned Becker Traffic Pro. I got it from Becker Autosound.com. Here's a link: http://www.beckerautosound.com/plug_...e%20index.html

The '96 TT came standard with the Hi Fi option which includes a Nokia amp under the front passenger seat. The controls in the driver's door arm rest are part of the Digital Sound Package - an optional factory upgrade. The Digital Sound Package has a Nokia amp under the passenger seat (as far as I know it's the same or very similar to the amp in the Hi Fi option).

Thanks! I'll check them out. Had seen their website before. Good to hear they are reputable.
