Default How To Replace The Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor?

I asked on the 993 forum, but thought I'd post here also in case there are different considerations for the Turbo. I've got a P117 code, bad cylinder head temperature sensor. I know it's not a fun job, but it's barely drivable so I may not be able to get it to my mechanic. If I end up changing it, do you access it from the top or from the bottom? Thanks for any insight!

It looks like this has mostly been covered on the 993 forum, the only thing I think that wasn't mentioned was the fact that you may well have to move the left side turbo plastic air intake tube out of the way to gain access to the sensor.

Kevin has advised (warned) us several months ago, that these are going to start showing their age, and need replacement.

Yes, indeed. The problem is you can't take it all the way out. But you can move it just enough that you can get the job done, while cussing German engineers who didn't have time to think about making it easier to replace parts.

It does come out, got mine out cos it had loads of oil in it, but at the time I was doing the valve lifters and chain cover gaskets, so the engine may have been lowered a touch. The risk of damaging the tube it is pretty high though!
