Default FVD 993 Turbo 520 spec???

I wanted to find out more about the spec of a 993, does anyone know?
In 1998 I understand FVD built 25 993 Bi Turbo with 520 hp. Would any of you know the specifications?
I think there was a road test in the French Flat 6 magazine and maybe one in Japan. Any info appreciated.
Thank you.

No idea, have you contacted FVD directly?

FVD sells a level 3 motor tuning kit. It's on their website.

What do you mean by "FVD built"?

I thought Ruf was the only one that actually builds their own complete cars.

Default FVD

The story as I understand it was that they created 25 to the same spec in 1998 using a new 4S.

The VIN number will tell you if the car started life as 4S or as a TT. Not that it's the same thing but Ruf charge circa €19K to convert a 993tt to their 490 spec and circa €40K to convert a 4S. If you want a breathed-upon tt best to start with one to begin with! And if they were built from new cars at the time it would have made even less sense to start with a 4S.

Also, try contacting RhondaFVD on here; she works for FVD in the US and may be able to get you the correct contact at FVD in Germany.

^^ I've found Rhonda to be very responsive in getting my questions answered here through RL PM.

I have never heard this story, it seems pretty unlikely, do you have a link to the car for sale ? It sounds like the seller is tyring to hype the car up a bit...

From FVD web site:

*Power with 525HP only with Sport Catalytic Set(210 111 993 10), Secondary Oil Coller(FVD 207 035) and Intercooler Motorsport(FVD 110 330)

From your car sale marketing blurb - check the picture half way down of the intercooler.

http://www.adriancrawford.co.uk/2012...-993-bi-turbo/

Your car does not have the "intercooler motorsport" so according to FVD is not the 520 package.

In reality the 520 package does not need the intercooler motorsport since it is no better than stock but FVD likes to sell stuff.

You need to check the camshafts, are they mechanical or standard hydraulic, are there any reference to rocker/tappet clearances with the car ?

If they are standard hydraulic then the car will likely have the 490 package which was definitely tested by Flat Six magazine, I have the test.

FVD didn't do "limited edition runs" of cars...... I saw FVD engined 993 turbos more than once on the ramps at RS Tuning, by punters who wanted their engines testing on the engine dyno to reveal missing hp..... this was par for the course with 993 turbo tuning back in the day - 993 turbos are very sensitive to IATs

Interesting comments about the FVD kit Toby.

I also noticed that the 520 hp kit requires the "Intercooler motorsport" and their "Sport Catalytic set". It says the same on the 3.8L 550 hp kit. It's interesting that both kits retains the OEM mufflers, which means that the diameter of the exhaust tubing is not enlarged at all (as opposed to RS-Tuning/CGs "high flow" exhaust with enlarged minimum diameter throughout the exhaust system).

The FVD 520hp kit appears to require a conversion to mechanical rockerarms. The cams are probably GT2 cams of some sort?

How well tailored is this kit? How well engineered is the programming if the components in the kit are installed properly and as supplied? I mean power in terms of sustainability and wear on the engine internals? How are the boost levels set in the ECU? TQ is a direct result of boost so one would like to know if the map is aggressive(=high engine wear and shorter engine longevity) or vice versa (=like the OEM 450hp kit). For example using the same I/C and all else equal, does this kit heat soak quicker than the cargraphic 520hp kit? Hard to prove I guess. What was the general view of these kits when people came with their cars to have them dynoed at RST? I browsed the CG homepage quickly and noticed it's priced a fair bit higher than the FVD kit.

When using the supplied ECU, I guess any deviation from using the supplied parts requires a new custom ECU tune? Like if another I/C is used or another exhaust system. Or if the parts are used as supplied but if the heads are machined or if the cylinders are ported?

I mean a "high flow" exhaust with enlarged minimum diameter would be better. Beefier rods are also recommended, especially if this kit delivers 720NM of TQ at 4500rpm..

I think one or two RLers have this kit, would be interesting to get some first hand info...
