I found the article above during a clear out - I had thought that there was never any performance numbers taken for the 450hp Euro 993ttS but Performance Car (the pre runner to EVO mag) did one in May '98

To me this is very valuable information for those of you who pay for your cars to be tuned and are given some wild chassis dyno numbers.
I have included the factory published engine dyno data for this engine.

The key numbers here are that they weighed the test weight at 3637lbs/1650kg
This car with a power to weight ratio of 278hp/tonne did 0-150mph in 22.1s

The 60-130 is 11.3s but that includes 3 gear changes

Any chance of getting larger versions of the scans? I'm killing my eyes trying to read the article. Thanks.

What is this turbo S going for these days? I looked on Autotrader and I didn't see any S models.

$100k w/ 60k miles to $175k w/ 3k miles and all in between. Richard Sloan and RPM seem to have cornered the market.

Wow, thanks for sharing. Poor magazine scribes, forced to risk their lives for our reading pleasure. We should be so lucky!

Gotta say I love the wild green-over-tartan color scheme of the 930 too. I'll bet not many of those made their way to the states...

Thanks for the info. That seems a little steep considering how much less you could pay for a 993TT and then add the performance parts to match or surpass the performance of the S. I guess if only the real thing will do, then you have to pay up.

I'm not near any of my Porsche books right now - Do you happen to know if there were less than 100 sent to the US that year?

There were approx 170 993tts , give or take a few ,sold in the US but they never had 450 hp, only 424 if my memory serves me correctly. All of them had a 97 vin #.

182 in the US. In addition to the performance, cars had EVERY option Porsche offered. Leather and carbon fiber EVERYTHING. Also different rear quarter-panel air intakes, front spoiler, rear wing. Original list over $150k. In 1997.

I still have the original order guide from the 993tts laying around somewhere. I think. However, the cars did not have every option standard. There was still, in Porsche fashion , room to up the price.

Some of the options were: cd changer, digital sound (or whatever they called it back then), sport seats (no cost), M30 suspension, carbon steering wheel, rear seat delete (no cost, I think).

I'd love to see a scan of the order guide if you have it.

The 1,650 kgs stated weight casts doubt on the accuracy of this test. All reviews have put the 993TT at 1,505-1,507 kgs. Here, the S found an extra 140 kgs. For slightly larger turbos and sports seats? Doesn't sound plausible.

If you can read the second data page which I attempted to enlarge - it says kerb/test 3307/3637lbs (1500/1650kgs)
ie the "kerb" weight is as quoted by Porsche and was pretty accurate for a (90% full tank full of fluids but no occupant) stock 993tt

The "test" weight will be the actual running weight on the day of the test so probably with 2 occupants to make up the extra 330lbs/150kg although the Euro S would undoubtedly have been heavier at "kerb" weight than the cooking 993tt due to as you say slightly biiger blowers and everything was covered in leather, add on spoiler lip etc.....

It was/still is very rare for magazines to actually weigh the test weight of the cars so the fact that Performance Car actually bothered for this test is exceptional and gives us some great comparisons to make when considering power to weight ratios:

The test of 9Ms 993RSR racer kerb weight 1180kg/2600lb test weight ~1280/2821lb did the 0-150 in 21s and claimed north of 400hp I believe ?
This gives it a claimed power/weight ratio of over318bhp/tonne

The 993ttS at 1650kg and 450PS did 0-150mph in 22s at its 277bhp/tonne power to weight ratio !

Over 400 porsche hp ? doesn't look likely........more like 360, which is still exceptionally good for a 993 motor.....
