Bloody noisy lifter...
On my recently purchased low mileage 1996 993tt, I get a lifter tick (quite loud) very shortly after starting the car from cold. Once warmed up, the noise goes away completely. This car was stored for over a year prior to me buying it and the oil and filters were changed days before me getting it. I have been told by my tech that if the noise does go away once warmed up, this indicates that the lifter is not faulty and once I have driven the car on a daily basis for a few weeks, this should go away permanently. I have been daily driving for about a week now and nothing has changed.
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same thing. I had the shop where the PPI was done change the oil before I took delivery. The Rocket Surgeon put 15-50 in it (good Park City Winter oil). The car had no noise before the oil change. Four different guys have also told me that it is nothing to worry about and if the noise bugged me I should change to lighter oil. Great, dump a hundred bucks of perfectly good useless oil down the drain!

i noticed a pretty good tick in my car the other day when it was cold. i had let it sit only a few days longer than normal so i was surprised. but it went away in no time...... normally it doesn't sit more than 3 days, unless i'm out of town. i'm just going to make sure it gets driven more.

I had something similar except I changed all 12 lifters and found the ticking still there. Took apart the top end and found the exhaust valve guides were worn beyond spec with 40,000km on the car. It happens...

Courtney confirmed that the tick is just the lifter and once warmed up, the noise is completely gone. I might do an engine flush and change the oil, again...
