Good thread this! Great tip on the breeze clamps! Victor, interestingly , I seem to remember a ridge on my I/C piping. I did pop a hose off once soon after I bought my 993tt and popped it back on myself. Can't be sure and car's in the shop at the moment having new turbos fitted. Have to check....

Bob,
Initially we changed the IC clamps because that was the problem. I think we did all the clamps when we did our recent seasonal chassis check.
I will post a source for the clamps tomorrow!

RufRacer,
Thanks for the info. My problem was also with the right upper connection. Interesting.
Scott,
Glad I could spare you the "increased pucker factor" experience!

Not to confuse the issue, but I had a 934 a few years ago. We were running alot of boost which made the hoses keep popping off. I was told to go to the Ford Dealership and buy the heavy truck clamps turbo clamps. These clamps are doubled with two different bolts.
Raced three seasons and never had a problem again.

Clubrcr: Thanks for the info. I am going to check those out as well. I want to try a couple of different ones and see which works best. I am getting tired of cleaning oil off the back of my car.

Interesting.. I was looking at it on their website not even 2 days ago (the picture on the black 993TT). It is the polished one that looks like it is 2 distinct pieces?? Have you measured the inlet pressure compared to the outlet pressure to see how much of a pressure drop you are getting?
I wanted to purchase one to compare it to the popular FVD and Cargraphic units. How much boost is your ECU setup for versus how much are you seeing through the intercooler?
I didnt like the fact that the hoses connect on the side instead of from the bottom. Did you have any problems with the hose size not being long enough?
Do you have any comments on it? I would love to hear them. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
Thanks

For me Breeze is the solution. Ruf clamp from factory is "two screw type" and far superior to thestock 993TT factory Porsche clamp. Not good enough for my applications. End of lecture!

Victor,
No I have not done a pressure drop on the intercooler. There were a couple of folks that same to not be overly impressed with their Cargraphic cooler, and a number of tuners and users recommended going with the Protomotive unit. Right now on pump gas, I'm probably only getting 1 BAR. I purchased but have not intalled a new Greddy boost controller. When done with the proper fuel, it should be running around 1.2 BAR.
The Hoses fit fine. You can see in the one shot how the work.

We have had this I/C discussion before, and whilst the FVD/Cargraphic unit (manufactured by TTP in Germany) may be popular, I would guess that is through marketing. RS Tuning have tested many I/Cs on their dyno (not Andial's or Protomotive stock 993tt) and maintain that the only one better than stock is the $15000 factory EVO Secan unit which requires a different induction system. I have a TTP unit and have carried out tests using a Hammer plugged in and reading inlet temp - whilst not back to back against stock, the inlet temps were hitting 65degC at max revs in third (ambient around 17degC) This info on its own doesn't mean much but 65degC is pretty high.
The rear entry on the Protomotive unit mimics the factory Secan EVO unit the only problem is that because of the stock inlet, the run across the cores is short whereas the EVO is around 30% greater. I am not sure how much the pressure drop issue is a factor here since most of us are running bigger turbos which flow plenty of air. TTP whilst being coy about whether his I/C cools better than stock claims a big benefit of his unit is the fact that it flows 30% better because of its size and internal aerodynamics.

TB993TT,
Thanks for your reply. This is the main reason I have been looking at getting different units to try. I am not a believer in marketing and just love to tinker, so I am always swapping parts to see for myself if a manufacturer's claims live up to the real world results.
I have had the stock intercooler on my car since I took the car out of storage. Unfortunately I dont have an I/C temperature gauge hooked up, nor do I have a datalogger so I cant tell if the ECU is pulling boost on me or not.
I am probably going to order a Protomotive unit and give it a try.
Thanks again for the input.
P.S->Do you have any pics of your car. I love the look of it. I would love to see what those GT2 flares look like. I have been thinking about doing the flares on my car. I have alot of rock chips because I drive it all the time. I figured if I am going to repaint it, I might as well do some body enhancements also.
