993GT2 EVO sequential gearbox (pics)
This is probably the ugliest and most expensive upgrade one can make to our 993TTs.
I have just acquired this one-off 993GT2 EVO gearbox built specifically for the Franz Konrad GT2 Le Mans racer. What is special about this gearbox other than the sequential mechanism is that all the internals have been custom made by Ricardo the F1 gearbox builder (and Veyron) for this particular high torque, endurance race car. The internals are described as undestructible, and are very far off from the typical billet upgrades.
I still don't have all the details of the gear ratios since the team is running the Bahrain Supercup race as I type this literally, but I know it has taller 1-2nd. gears (Yum!!) and it reaches a top speed of 165mph or so, which coincidentally, will be my top speed at the end of the straight therefore maximizing the gearbox potential.
It is being shipped from Germany to Bahrain as we speak, and will be installed in my car by the end of this week hopefully if nothing unforeseen happens.
It is missing the cooler in the pictures, but has all the internal setup ready and the openings on the box for fitting the cooler, which will be done at a later stage.
I will test it and let you guys know how it performs.
Now, anyone out there knows how to drive a sequential gearbox? How the heck do you blip the throttle?

Thanks Bob,
In fact I am selling the GT2 aluminum doors, TT gearbox and new Guard LSD that I bought from you, also thinking about selling the house and the dog . I will post everything on the classifieds as soon as I have some time.
This gearbox is really special, Konrad has been holding on to it like his own baby.
I can't wait to see what sort of performance difference it does on the AX22. I will do a run before changing it and after, at the same boost levels.

Congratulations Jean on the new and very trick gearbox. If you want lessons, I'm sure my friends would help you out. Three of them competed today in the Porsche Super Cup and one them, owns a Skyline with a Sequantial greabox as well.

Thanks Khalid,
I met one of them last week end during the first day of practice sessions, he was complaining of strong pain in the palm of his hand as a result of shifting gears

How much for the dog?
Are the gear ratios setup for an engine that had a higher RPM range? You mention supercup so I am curious. If you send me the ratios, I'll put together the gear chart for you.

One of the cars at SCARGO has this setup. From what I was told by someone that went for a ride in it the driver never let off. That tranny was hugh $$$$$ and the manual is a damn phone book.
Great upgrade!!!

I don't have the gear ratios yet, will have them as soon as Konrad is back from Sebring and will let you know if you are interested. The gearbox was built for the GT2 EVO.

Yes I cannot say the Bahraini guys were the fittest of the bunch of course I will participate in the shootout, March 23rd. Is that your Turbo S in the list of participants?
Tom, I guess i will have to get used to it, it will certainly be interesting
Thanks Marty.

With a box like this, the ECU is very often programmed to help smooth the shifting and to help the gearbox last longer. A strain gauge is used on the shifter which lets the ECU know that the trans is in the process of changing hears. This allows the ECU to retard the timing to reduce the torque so the box shifts easier and with less risk of damage.
