Whats the best way to clean aluminum oxide off engine and transmission cases?

Ive never done this but some guys claim GIBBS will remove it. comes in a spray can.

What you mean is oxidized aluminum - not aluminum oxide (AL2O3).

You can also try starting with just white vinegar and a brush. If your worried about residual action of the vinegar, you can neutralize with a solution of water and baking soda.
