Default Door Lock Issue

So, I am having an issue with my drivers side door lock. Normal operation of the lock means that whenever a door is locked or unlocked, a signal is sent that tells the opposite door to perform the same action. So locking the driver door will automatically lock the passenger door and vice versa .

The passenger door is working normally as it should, operating both doors simultaneously, the drivers door lock is only operating itself and NOT the passenger door. The drivers door is, however, still setting the alarm system. So if the drivers door lock is turned and someone opens the passenger door (which isn't receiving the lock signal) the alarm will sound.

I have the wiring diagram, but I am unclear as to the issue. It appears the drivers lock cylinder feeds to Relays 1, 52, and 53 in the diagram.

Where should I go from here? (driver's lock cylinder is at G20 on the diagram)

I have a late 1995, and have never used the key to unlock the doors. Always the key fob.
Since you did not specify, I am guessing yours is early 1995 with no key fob?

I will check the operation of my key later and verify the passenger door operation.

That is correct, early 1995 so no key fob. Only way to unlock or lock the car is with the actual key

Does the inside lock button on the console lock both doors?

Possible that the CU doesn't register the door closed. Check your drivers side door contact switch. It's the black rubber button. It'll have one wire attached so check to see if it dislodged itself.

I second flyingchappy.

Very likely that a micro-switch is not making contact and the Alarm Control Unit under the passenger's seat is acting incorrectly because of this.

I checked the door contacts, they both seem to be operating correctly.

When the center console unlock button is pressed it only operates the drivers side door, the passenger door stays locked...this is very confusing

Sounds like wiring to the actuator, or the actuator in the door is bad.

Check your lights-on warning buzzer. Leave them on, turn car off and open doors. That will determine if your door switches are working.

I'm starting to think the same thing. It seems the passenger door actuator (or solenoid?) may be bad. The drivers side door is responding to electric signals from the console, so maybe the drivers door is working as it should but the passenger door isn't receiving electric signals from the drivers door. The only way the passenger door works is manually with the key.

Is the door solenoid a body ground or does it have its own ground strap?

Not sure. One test will be pulling the door panel, grabbing the connector that goes to the door lock and unplugging it. Then hook a test light to the wire and see if a signal is making it that far when you trigger the lock. You should be able to follow the schematic you referenced earlier and find the color wire. Not exactly sure of the plug location in the door, though...

Problem solved

One of the pins in the electrical connector in the passenger door had come loose and wasn't seated properly. Pushed it back into the connector housing and all works as it should. Thanks for the help everyone
