Default Turbo S - Side intakes

Quick question. Were the side intakes that were on the Turbo S a "option" that you could order on the 993 regular Turbo or were they only exclusive to the 993 Turbo S? If so what was the option code for the side intakes? I hear this could only be ordered in the UK? Is this correct? Thanks!

A very beautiful and not inexpensive option. There is some very nice metal work going on there, much like what you'd find on a Ferrari. On the 996 Turbo and following models it became a cheap, plastic insert (doubtful Porsche reduced the price accordingly, though).

"A very beautiful and not inexpensive option".
Are you're referring to Gbos1's re-positioned avatar?

Available for all 993, standard or wide body.

Search for Geolabs DIY on his car, mind blowing (much like the avatar)

Wow great to know guys! So was this option only for the UK or did it apply to the US too? I never saw a car here in the US with the side intakes other than the Turbo S.

Cool thanks Lex! Anybody know how much the Original Option "cost" was? Must have been prohibitive!

I remember something like $7,500. It's been a while, so I may be off.

I would say it was available even for Mars. It's just looks, there's nothing functional on those vents though.

They're not even functional on the TS?

Not sure in the Turbo S, but certainly not in the regular turbo with this option. It was one of the first things I explored when got the car, I was curious as to what was connected to them or if they had some "wind" channel or duct to the engine bay or something. But there's nothing there...useless but sure enough looks GREAT!

Wow! That is a real let down... probably why they are scarce outside the Turbo S. I would have thought there was some functionality like others such as Ferrari and Lamborghini's cars.
