Default Switching oil?

Are there are any concerns about switching oils? The PO was using Motul for almost all its life (97' 993), I'm thinking about switching to Mobil 1. Assume that that both oils are same viscosity.

Not really looking for input on what kind of oil is recommended, just want to know if switching oils can be a concern.

no problem, except in very rare cases, and even then, no biggie.

Using a high quality full synthetic, 15W50 or 20W50 will be just fine.

My new mechanic is suggesting a 5-40 Synthetic? I live in the NE. 15-50 better? Wonder why he is saying 5-40W?

U need another new mechanic. Search any aircooled 911 post from Rennlister Steve Weiner for your answer.

I read somewhere that it's even okay to mix synthetic with non-synthetic.

Stick with the Motul (assuming it contains sufficient ZDDP).

My mechanic uses Motul. The only problem is it's hard to find. He suggested using Mobil 1 of the same viscosity for top ups if I can't find Motul.

In New England you will be able to drive later into the season (and all through winter) with a 5w40. You really don't want a 15 or especially a 20 when the temperature starts to drop late-fall and you have mornings of below freezing weather nor do you really need a 50 during the hottest months of summer. Who is servicing your 993?

I have a local guy who knows these cars very well and has been working on Air Cooled Porsche's since the early 80s. He is very well respected around here with the PCA and others for work he has performed over the years. Now talking with Porsche Classic in Colorado Springs "Dave Petitti" (where I purchased my car last year in the Fall) who is the SM is recommending the Porsche Classic 10-60W in my car. So my guy is doing some research around that with some of his connections in the UK. He is gonna get back to me. Porsche apparently developed their own oil for our cars and Dave recommends it. So for me there are multiple answers out here just trying to get a straight and correct one . . . .......more to come
