Default What was the "base" 911 in 1998

Came across some nearly 20 year old Porsche books and learned an interesting tidbit. For model year 1998 Porsche considered the "S" as the base model as it was the lowest price point available for a 911. They also lowered the price to match the 1997 C2 coupe.

1997 C2 coupe = $63,750
1998 C2S coupe = $63,750

(I believe the 1997 C2S base price was $66,796).

Yep, the base for 1998 was the c2s. All 1998's were wide body except for cabs and targas.

So my '97 is the final year for a narrow body air-cooled coupe? I hadn't realized. Cool!

So if I bought a March 97 build (MY97) and instead waited 2 months for the May 97 for a MY98 build I would have saved $3,046.
C2S gets no respect.

If you bought new, I think you more than made up the difference with the sales price delta between C2 and C2S

No doubt. But I can assure you that I'm in the abyss with all the mods and upgrades to this dung beetle.

my C2 is pretty hilariously optioned. Its about as bare-bones as possible, but the original owner spent almost $7k on a rootwood dash and nothing else. Luckily less stuff to break, i guess...

^^ haha, I mean how else would someone spend $7k worth of options...

Edit: looks like you have corrected that with your own additions!

I figured someone that would want the rootwood, would have gotten better optioned seats than 4-ways, or OBC, or the HiFi sound option. If it were me, I would have spent it on ABD / LSD and called it a day.

IIRC, model year '98 for North America rolled out a dealership "trunk money" incentive for the 993.

-2% rebate calculated against the total retail value in addition to extended terms was the "trunk money".
The N.A. dealership's were encouraged to buy/inventory 993 vehicles and liberally-heavily option these cars. Many did.

Like many before me ... I'd spend the spring of '97 memorizing the PAG 993 options deck. In the end the C2S is spec'd at the TT equipment level and then some. ... Sans the 4x4 and turbo's..... (ordered May 16th '97)

And here I thought those of us who have skinny bodies were the least desirable and least wanted of the 993s. Of course my NB 993C2 didn't cost me an arm and a leg like the fatties cost. I only cost me an arm when I bought it used back in 2009.
