Default What is causing this noise?

Trying to figure out what is causing a noise is darn difficult to do over the internet, but here I go. The car is a 1995 US spec 993, with PSS-9s and 107,000-ish miles. I have a creaking sound coming from what seems to me to be near the rear suspension on driver's side. It is not a metal on metal sound. It sounds sort of like the creaking sound of an old wooden floor when someone walks over it. It happens when the suspension flexes. But it seems to only happen after the car has been driven for 20 minutes or more. I have yet to hear it when I leave in the morning, but do after I drive home. I've rocked the car frame around by hand and can occasionally hear it. I jacked the car up, and then used another jack to move the suspension, but heard nothing. Looked at the lower shock mounts and the sway bar mounts and they seemed tight. The various bushing seemed ok to my untrained eye. Any tips, tricks, or suggestions?

Deteriorated rear sway bar bushings, rusty spring perch, dying drop links, bad control arm bushings, etc, etc, etc.

What nile13 said, only I'm going to guess more specifically @ the rear sway bar bushings; that is of course, if the noise is indeed coming from the rear. Noise origins are very often, difficult to pinpoint.

Try squirting some penetrating fluid in between the rear sway bar and bushes, and see if this does not quiet the squeeking. If so, replace your bushings.

You may try this in the other area's mentioned as well, but only do one area at a time and allow a couple of days between area's of test. You dont to have to guess which spritzing solved the squeek; but then again the pene fluid will only be a temporary silencing.

Get some rubber lubricant and lube the bushings and see if things settle down.

Rear anti roll bar bushings as previously suggested. Squirt some silicone lube into them. If it goes away you might want to lube with silocone grease. Might be time to replace the bushings too.

Thanks. This weekend I will start with lubing the sway bar bushings and report back.

It could be the rear window creaking. My front ws was always quiet but the rear made the noise you described over speed bumps and driveway entrances. The usual foam rope and Pedros fix.

That is an excellent idea, Mike. It does sound like that.

So the same rope for the front window will work on the rear?

I am not trying to hijack this thread but I have the same noise periodically and thought it was the back glass. Thank you!

Update:
It was the rear spring not sitting correctly in the perch. A slight rotation and the noise is gone.
