Default Aston Vantage V12 vs. Audi R8 V10

As much as I love my 993, I've been thinking about other cars I might be interested in buying. After thinking about it for a while, the AM Vantage V12 and the Audi R8 V10 are the only cars that really interest me.

Both naturally aspirated, both around the same priced for a slightly used one.

The Aston is more of a luxury GT than the R8 of course, but they both have fantastic, high displacement engines and can be had with a 6-speed manual and without forced induction.

Anyone have a preference? And if so, why?

I'll be test driving both very soon, but any input is appreciated! Thanks

Default Aston Vantage V12 vs. Audi R8 V10

I would jump into a wood chipper to put an R8 in my garage.

I've had to talk myself out of a TTS twice at a dealer because A) they're NOT actually half of an R8 and B) I am afraid someone might call me a girl.

As for Aston Martins. they're for guys who think they're James Bond but are really James May.

Pretty sure I stole that from somewhere.

I have a cousin in England who has an AM - loves it. Have a friend in Cologne, engineer for Ford - said there were problems. AM was owned by Fomoco some years ago. Think the v12 is basically 2 F engines joined at the hip. He wouldn't say much about it, was some years ago ( maybe 10).
Have no knowledge of the Audi apart from media/ magazines.

Got my 993 back in the garage for first time since earthquake - has been sitting out in the summer sun last 6-8 weeks.
Cheers - D

I would never call someone in a TT a girl. That would be sexist, chauvinistic, bigoted and exclusionary. It could very well be a male hairdresser.

Pretty much the opposite of the aforementioned 007 character

Heart says AM Vantage, head says R8. A test drive of each will tell you which is the right option for you.

I was impressed that the engineers could shoehorn a V12 into the Vantage chassis. Although visibility in the AM is limited and the interior felt claustrophobic. Haven't sat in an R8 so can't compare.

I'd run my TT RS against 95% of the cars on this board.

Just sayin'.

Audi R8 V8 or V10 > Aston Martin Vantage any day. Driven both the AM is a Dog compared to the R8 ... more so the V10.. it's a beast!

The V8 sounds better (to me) and is much lighter than the V10. It's probably one of the best sounding engines in the world, that V8. It also happens to be easier on the pocketbook. Yet, something about the profile looks a bit awkward, though.

I would never consider owning a Vantage, but they are in proportion from every angle.

Do you want sexy or do you want reliability ?

I know. As an owner of two Miatas, I can make this joke And one of them would, literally, run circles around 95% of the cars. And routinely does most summer weekends.
