Considering switching. Never for a 997 std. but for a GT3. Probably .1. Anyone ever do it and regret it? Means selling the 993?

My friend just went from a 964 C2 --> 993 C2S --> 997.1 GT3. Zero regrets on his end. He actually said if there was another car he could add back to his stable it would be the 964.
Assuming you have driven one? I guess it depends on your intended use too.
I'm very impressed by the driving experience, but still think the 993 is a much better looking 911.

I've owned and tracked modified 964 C2, 997.1 C2S, 997.1 GT3, and 997.2 C2S. Used all on street and track (Red / Instructor group). In the final analysis of "best" for me is the 993 C2S I have now. I can honestly say this is my overall favorite, which is why I don't own any of the others. I'm a 1-Porsche at a time sort of person because I have so little time to enjoy my various hobbies that when I go out for a drive I want it to be "the one". I will say that of all of the Porsches I've owned, the one I regret letting go is the 964 - that would have been a worthwhile "hold" as it was pretty stripped down and "raw". Both the 964 and 993 have "soul", are more visceral than the more modern versions, and still have exciting performance. Yes, the newer cars are faster, but none provided me with a higher level of enjoyment. Now, when I take "Red" out on a beautiful fall day like today time seems to stand still.

I went from 993tt to a 997.2 GT3 then to my RUF so my perspective may be a little different than most. I will say that the GT3 is a lot of car! I don't spend much time at the track, so driving around LA in the GT3 just felt like it wasn't doing the car justice. Amazing vehicle, but when I had the opportunity to buy the RUF, it was an easy decision. Bottom line, you won't be disappointed. They are all amazing cars. Just know how you plan on using it, trust your decision, be safe and have fun!

Good point - One of my problems with both the GT3 and the 997.2 C2S With lowered Sport PASM was they were not very enjoyable to drive on the street. Scraped on every driveway / apron, pot holes were jarring, etc. The 997.1 C2S and current 993 C2S with M033 / Koni FSD were / are great drivers here in the Northeast.

OP, I prefer the 996 GT3 over the 997.1, just another thing to keep in mind.
the 997 may be "better", but I like the 996.

GT3 vs. 993 and earlier is in a different league.
If it was a street only car, no, but on track it's a major upgrade. And not just faster - it's how it goes faster. An engine that loves to rev to >8K with a chassis and brakes to match - really night and day.
That said, the 'quality' is just not there. Cost cutting everywhere visible tactically, a wicked drivetrain in an otherwise 'cheap' car.
I really and truly love both. They are just different.
If I had to pick one (not on track), a 993 or earlier no question.
Cheers

Those are my thoughts as well. I've spent a lot of time in a 7GT3 including some hard driving and I can't bring myself to replace any of my 993s with one. Great engine and chassis, and so easy to drive fast, but lots of reminders of the 996 in build quality.
