Default 993 Air Intake Box Question

Hey folks I've got a question regarding the factory air intake box and the various covers. I did use the search function and haven't seen this particular question asked/answered.

I currently have the standard air intake box and cover coupled with the RS intake trumpet, i.e. this thing:

I am contemplating buying a Motorsound intake cover for the added sound, but I would like to continue using this trumpet. As you can tell in my avatar image I have a turbo tail on my 993 NB and I've heard the RS trumpet is a valuable addition to the 993 intake with a fixed wing arrangement.

So can the RS trumpet fit properly into the chromed port of the Motorsound intake cover? I'm guessing the answer is "no" but I have yet to inspect a Motorsound cover in-person to verify this. Plan B is to take the drill to the stock intake cover to add some holes.

Thanks in advance!

The short answer is no.

The long answer is actually a question... What's the point of running the longer intake elbow if you're going to drill holes and end up with hot air?

I see what you are saying......I have the Aero Kit II "Air Hook" Decklid....so it rushes cold air in from the top and sides of the wing as the Turbo Tail does not....designed for the Intercooler.

Gbos1, I realize the turbo tail is ill fit to a NA 993 because it was designed with an intercooler taking up a ton of engine bay space. That said, I don't have any immediate plans to replace the tail and I figure having the trumpet in there is better than not.

Ilko, I appreciate the question. The motivations for changing anything are purely for intake sound. Adding holes could lose some of the cool-air benefit from the trumpet. As just explained above the turbo tail is probably impacting the quality of the air reaching the intake more than the trumpet and potential holes in the side of the lid would.

Thanks for the quick answer too.

Since I now have RSR mufflers and a Fabspeed-X pipe with sport cats, I wonder if I'd even notice any additional engine sound due to intake modifications...?

In a word, nope!

I'd leave the RS cold air trumpet and ditch the other ideas, based upon your current configuration.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to focus my attention elsewhere and install a RS hot air duct bypass tube to match the trumpet instead.

At speed, the airbox isn't sucking in hot air. It's sucking in ambient temp air. Try it for yourself: After you've been driving and the engine is up to temp, pull over and put your hand on the airbox and intake manifold. They're ambient temp, maybe a few degrees warmer.

Is the induction noise what you are after?

If so this may be what you are looking for.

I bought a new Motorsound cover and cut it out to emulate the CUP airbox and combined with my Fabspeed Xpipe/200 cell cat combo the intake sound is pretty loud..

I once had a loose hose from the turbo leading to the intake slip off on my 1.8 liter turbo beetle sounded like a dragster. Could have left it off but I would have lost at least 1/3 of the horsepower.

Kinda makes one think about the sense of the clutch breathe tube at this point.
I prefer my asbestos fibers left in the bell housing, or exhausted in the airflow below the car
Im jus sayin...

Not sure why you say no?

The m/s box is the same size and shape as the standard one.

Surely the answer is yes it will fit but there is no real point as the idea is for the snorkel to get all air from outside the grille and the m/s airbox allows air to be drawn in from inside the engine bay too?
