Default 993/964 Timing Chain cover gaskets - P/N info

I am fixing some oil leaks on my 993, and got to the timing chain covers yesterday. I had been using the 993 Global PET as reference to order parts, and came across a surprise with the timing chain cover gaskets. I think what I found is an error in the 993 PET, so I wanted to share the info here and get some feedback whether others have run into the same issue...

Problem
The timing chain covers are NOT symmetric left vs. right-side.
In fact, the 993 PET indicates the following part numbers for the covers:
LH: 964 105 107 01
RH: 964 105 108 01

However, the 993 PET indicates the EXACT SAME part number for the gaskets
LH & RH: 964 105 181 01

Without further thought, I ordered x2 of the same gasket and thought I would be able to wrap up the job yesterday, until I tried to actually fit the gaskets to the cover. The right-side cover is a completely different shape than the left side, and the attachment stud/nuts are even in different locations.

Solution ??
So I looked up the 964 PET, and lo-and-behold, it indicates DIFFERENT part numbers for left vs. right-side gaskets.
From the 964 PET:
Covers:
LH: 964 105 107 01
RH: 964 105 108 01

Gaskets:
LH: 964 105 181 01
RH: 964 105 182 00

So... I'm gonna place an order for the RH-side gasket, as indicated on the 964 PET. I'll report back if this is correct.

Has anyone else come across this issue? There are many RL'ers that have done this job, but I googled and could not find any mention of this discrepancy.

Anyway, here are some pictures to explain my mumbo-jumbo...

1) The actual chain covers... looks the same, but there is a small difference in the lower corners closest to the engine block

2) The seals that I removed... the small difference in the covers is actually a BIG difference in the gasket (see the inner upper corners of the covers)

3) Comparing 993 vs. 964 PET...

Very interesting, never thought to check the 964 katalog/pet when I did mine, and I suspect I'm not alone in this.

The gasket is pretty flexible so I just set it in the channel and it conformed to the different contour just fine. No leaks so far.

There are several threads in the 964 & 993 forums re the gaskets...Porsche sells both L&R as one part/#....you need to just fit the gasket into the groove...forget which side needs the special handling...replaced mine 10k miles ago...no leaks

That version of PET is well out of date, latest is version 403, that is 248

There is only one seal for both covers, 964 & 993 are the same 964 105 182 00 is now 964 105 181 01

Thanks for the feedback. I thought I found my solution until I tried to order 964 105 182 00; it has indeed been superseded by 964 105 181 01, and is being applied to both sides.

I will try to "fit" the gasket into the cover...

The gasket fits both sides. I've replaced timing chain cover gaskets on three 993s over the last year. No issues.

Good info. 248 is the version on the Porsche Classic site, where would one get hold of a more current version?

Im afraid its down to Porsche to update as all the pdf versions ultimately are from them. There are about 20 revisions a year, so they are about 8 years old.
