The C4S came with solid spoke turbo twists, so hollows are actually a big upgrade. If you have not purchased them yet you could save by buying the 993 "turbo-look" solid spoke wheels. If you already bought them you should definitely mention that they are an upgrade over the stock wheels.

I would agree with others that it should go back to NA. I would ditch the turbo wing too unless it was an OEM aerokit car. The C4S big, beautiful hips look much better with no wing.

I am shocked that some above think a 993 wheel is so important. Yeah, if I was ever going to sell a 993 I would put the original wheel on but the 996 wheel is a huge upgrade and very easy to install and revert to stock, if needed. Of any mods that you listed, that would likely be the least likely to turn me off as a buyer. Also as mentioned elsewhere recently, the airbags in the 993 wheels are reaching the end of their lifespan. A 996 wheel and airbag is more modern and probably a safer setup.

I agree with all of this EXCEPT the steering wheel. I MUCH prefer the 996 leather wheel (especially with a leather airbag). And I agree with the other comment that I would never consider a car with an aftermarket turbo on it. An aftermarket stereo head unit, visible amp & wiring, and speaker grilles is another big turn-off for me (even though it's relatively simple to rectify).

When I bought my C4S, I liked that it already had suspension, exhaust, and a strut brace installed - because I would definitely do those myself ASAP. I think it was under-valued because it had GT3-style hardbacks, a bolt-in roll cage w harnesses, cheesy door speakers, and black-centered RH wheels (which were actually pretty nice). The fact that I got the stock seats, stock exhaust, stock turbo twists were a huge win, and I immediately put the stock seats and wheels back on and removed the roll cage.

What would have made my C4S even more attractive would have been a recent comprehensive maintenance service: filters (engine, cabin, fuel), plugs, wires, dist caps & rotors, belts, valve cover gaskets, etc.

I think the consensus is: the more stock, the better. Everyone has slightly different goals and tastes. Most would like to start with a clean slate...

GLWS!

I already pulled the trigger on the turbo wheels and seats. I'll be sure to mention that in the ad.

I will start working on stock exhaust. I let some mufflers and cats slip through my hands recently. Can't let that happen again. I bet $1k get me back into stock exhaust. The built motor will work equally well NA.

So true railmaster! I guess most new owners don't trust the mods until they own the car for a while and experience some of the shortcomings. Even then we tend to tip toe into em.

+993!

I wanted (and got) a 100% factory stock 993 and enjoyed her that way for a bit, wanting to feel how she was 'meant to be', all while I determine what (in my view) was needed to take her to the next level and address some 'shortcomings' (albeit those are few).

Eventually ended up doing PSS10s, Fister II + Fabspeed Sport cats/X-pipe, and then the Golden Rod + SSK, which to me at least addressed all the items I wanted to be 'a bit better' (suspension/handling, sound, transmission). Was also helpful to see the 'delta' in the mods vs the stock experience.

If I was looking for a car I would look for one with the major component servicing done recently, clutch, synchros. I would be impressed with a standard smog compliant aftermarket exhaust and any sport street related strut replacement. I would not care for internal engine or transmission modifications from stock without a good discussion with the seller as to me these changes calls into question what the car was used for and how reliable an engine opened up once it left the factory is.

On the other hand a car that is stock with its original struts and other originally installed components on a 20 year old car calls into question all the little stuff that may need attention that may not have been done, odometer gears, rebuilt steering rack, fuel filter, vacuum actuator replacement etc. All that little stuff can add up to a lot of maintenance cost I may have to shoulder.

My personal preference has to do with my desire to own the car a long time and to minimize the need for service work down the road.

Some who have enhanced performance on their mind may have a considerably different view.

If I was shopping for a 993, i'd like it to have a Fabspeed X-Pipe with Maxflos (bit biased of course) a little stiffer suspension, and some Signature wheels with sticky tires to make it pop. Cased closed for me haha

Doesn't that list come down to what exactly your intentions are with the car...All original Garage queen, or possibly a higher mileage driver? This is a pic of the sign I strapped to by back at Hershey in 2010, I also had vinyl lettering on my truck proclaiming the same...as well as business cards that I inserted under the wiper of EVERY 993 there that attracted my attention. Also helped Rennlisters identify me...kinda like a "where is Waldo" moment....

Pennies on the dollar...are what you can reasonably expect for your return on investment, regarding aftermarket improvements. Why wouldn't a like minded enthusiast in the market, not want to realize that potential mod savings?

If I had it to do over again...I'd probably go for that Schwartz Black/Chestnut 4S with the " unknown" mechanical issue...just because that color combo haunts me to this day. I adore my "usual" Arctic silver/ grey 4S, and besides having an aftermarket suspension best suited to dump trucks...it has been spectacularly reliable for going on 7 years, and 45k miles.

OP, perhaps you went too far with your mods. Perhaps the right buyer will surface immediately after you "invest" the money to return it to stock...Murphys law you know.

Anyway...

Perhaps.....I just think it's largely misunderstood. OEM's are now moving towards high compression low boost motors. It creates an NA like driving experience. No lag just feels like a big healthy cammed motor. It's really more like a 550HP RS than a TT.

Just about all who inquired about the car asked for stock parts. Once I finalize that collection I think buyers will be more open to the car as is knowing it can be converted back at anytime for collector value.

Whatever the case it's not a bad place to have my money parked at the moment. I get to enjoy it once in a while and the inventory for low mileage rust free 993C4S's will only get tighter in time. While somewhat flat now I foresee values climbing in the future.

Thanks to all who took the time to reply!

All I can say here is "different strokes for different folks" not many things in life differ more in personal viewpoint than cars, particularly sports cars.

Just list the car "as is" and someone will buy it.

I specifically purchased my C4S because it already had the mods in place that I wanted without having to pay for them; LWF, RS clutch, and regeared with Guards gear set. All done by a reputable shop and full maintenance records. Ten years later it's clear to me it was a good decision.

Interesting thread! I also agree with the turbo tail being removed! Arena Red is Tremendous.
