Default Rim painting rig

Photo shows my rim painting rig with rim mounted. Wheel on rig has been primed and has color coat applied.
still needs clear coats applied.

Paint inside of hub first, then when dry insert fixtures into hub, tighten fixtures place on jackstands. move by turning rod.

I am impressed. When I redid my wheels it was a lo-fi approach compared to your rig!

What's the insert between the wheel center and the rod? AKA "fixtures".
Can you post some close up pix?

Will try to answer questions asked.

Used devilries SRI spot gun with 1.0 fluid tip.

2 coats of all products were applied.

all coating are Sherwin Williams products.

primer is 2 part urethane, that is primer and hardener

basecoat is Dimensions high hiding arctic silver metallic : reducer used was based on ambient temp.

2 coats of ultimate clearcoat
.
not sure what BAF stands for

metal rod that goes thru center of hub spacer fixture or whatever it is held in place by a collar bushing that is tighten with setscrews.

I did not make the spacers. I took one of each size rim t my machinist and explained to him what I wanted. He took all measurements and made them out of wood. I had asked for aluminum abut here said wood will be fine. He was right.

Big Ass Fan, I suspect.

I tried a lower tech approach, using a purpose-built wood frame and rattle cans. Results were, perhaps predictably, not as attractive as yours.

Perfect, wood is easy to lathe and less risk of scratching the painted inside of hub compared to metal.

My nb techno wheels need a respray, I will shamelessly plagiarize your method when I do that.

Thx for posting! You wheels are looking reat btw

Very cool idea. I saw this setup on Instagram last week and thought it looked really nice as well.

painting in temps in the 90s and high humid fans are very helpful. they can also direct overspray and help keep bugs away.
