Default Cabriolet Dome Light Function

I'm sorting through issues on my 96 Cab. The spoiler now works and I fixed the radio this afternoon. The next issue is interior lighting. I have a dome/map light between the visors. I thought the bulb was burned out because the light didn't come on when I opened the door. I then replaced the lamp with a Sylvania LED. It still didn't illuminate when the door is opened. So, I tried rotating the bulb and found out the housing has a rocker switch function that acts like a map light which come on during my inspection.

Now I know the light works. The door switch works because the 'key is in the ignition' buzzer works with the door open. So, is the dome light supposed to come on when I open the door?

Yes. The rocker switch involves the whole fixture so to speak. It has three positions....off, always on and on when the door opens then fading off. Good luck...

Light forward it's on with the door and goes off on delay. Center it's off, up or back its on all the time. I had problems with mine and just replaced it, not expensive and it was corroded.

Thanks for the feedback. I was able get it working by cleaning the rocker switch contacts.

It will, sooner or later, fall out of the opening when you are driving. When that happens, just don't panic. But it will happen with 98.34% certainty.

I had the chance to see the light in the evening. I was hesitant when I bought the Sylvania LED, but I really like it. Definitely reccomend it for the brightness.

The dome fixture is loose, like most others. It looks like a good application for a 3D printed part. It looks like a small clip on tab that extends into the headliner would do the trick without glue/silicone.

I bought the 6411 LED bulb from Sylvania. They come up if you search on O'Reilly's website. It was the normal 'cool white' LED version, not the higher priced 'Zevo' version. The color and brightness of the lamp that I bought looks good for me.

My dome light never worked since I bought the car... most of the time it has been hanging from it's position between the visors.
I removed it to look at it and:
- Wire connectors look bad --> I'll fix them;
- There seems to be only one side for the bulb to get power (pic here below);

Is there anything missing in it??

I should check better the housing of the light between the visors don't recall seeing any part....
Assuming this can still work (or I buy a new one) why does it fall down? is there any specific clip to install to make it stay there?

many thanks

Anyone have a solution to secure the housing assembly so that it stays where it is supposed to instead of coming loose and sometimes dropping? Thanks!

I have used E6000 adhesive on one side of the hole very sparingly so I can still slant it to remove if bulb goes out...

My light stays in place, but only works when i push it forward, towards the windshield. In the middle position, it should light when the door is open, but it does not. Door gong works so I know its not that.
