I'm running 17's on mine. For driving comfort, I find it really depends on the road surface.

+1 .... to OE Cup II wheels wearing Michelin PS2 205/50 and 255/40 17's
The PAG boys street focused wheel/tire size combo ..

A buyer caveat is the cost/wear metric of the rear PS2's in 255/40/17".... The rear axle's PS2 tires wear rate is swift, really swift. (What rear 993 tire isn't?) Expect only 8K to 10K miles and you'l be at the rear PS2 wear bars nearing. Basically, 2 rear tires for every 1 front tires. - edit

A potential street 17 inch 993 tire choice is the newer Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 ...
Yeah, the marketing phenomenon "All Season" tire thought is scary.
I hear great things regarding the model Pilot Sport A/S 3 (reasonable wear) ... maybe a better name is "3 season" ???

W a proper suspension and alignment, I get equal front and rear wear. Both street and track tires.

Sorry about hijacking this one, but how bad/good are the Ps2s with flat spotting?
I killed my Contis (DW) and my Yokos (AD08R) during last winter's storage. After lots of swearing, I finally ended up buying some 16s with sacrificial tires for long term storage.
Nevertheless, because of work, the car will end up sitting a couple weeks at a time during the warmer months.
I just put PS2s on my 17s, and I am now contemplating putting some on the 18s...

Default Wheel alignment vs tire wear . .

An interesting take? ... Alignment and excessive - swift rear tire wear.

While visiting PAG's new ATL HQ facility the coupe was thrown up on the rack to investigate the source of an oil leak ...
Bill V. this is where it get's interesting. The tech questioned the rear alignment spec? I'll paraphrase.. "How's the alignment, the rear axle (arms) appear out of spec???" .. Offered up was the coupe's lopsided rear tire wear for discussion, ..yet the coupe drives fine.
The last alignment was at the ole Werk 1 facility; An LH air cargo ride, 55K miles and 15 years ago..

Recently assembled a 4-set of Bilstein HD's, Elephant Racing LCA bushings, a cardboard box of PAG hardware, ball joints, mounts, etc., to prep for a weekend chassis renewal project. HQ would handle the wheel alignment post haste ..... We'll see.

That's a bombshell Bill! When you say "equal", how many miles do you get out of a normal set. Both my 911's get about 10k miles out of the rears and about double that for the front. I have had both cars set up by repected shops and for four sets, the wear has been very predictable. What's your secret?

Hi
I swapped recently to 17 205/255 Michelin SP2 N3 and drove them -
1000 km down to Tuscany (= beautiful but bad roads). Like 17 much more than former 18 with Rossos. Car is lowered RoW minus 3 cm. Better on brakes better accel smoother ride and only less precise in corners 110mph and up. Anyhow a question of personal preferences.
Greetings from Austria.

+1... 17 inch wheels for a 993 chassis boulevard sportif.. street set up.

The 993 production had just finished year 4 with model year '98 production seamlessly in the queue.. When asked, many a PAG Eng./Tech folk were unanimous in suggesting the RoW stock C2S build spec; .. M033 w/17 inch wheels (Cup II).... For my MY98 993 C2S build the rest is history....

P.S., The 18" Turbo twist's or the 18" BBS RE model whatever wheels,, sure look purddey....though.

Lots of folks running 17's (including me) run 225/45 front instead of 205/50. Reduces understeer a bit, IMHO especially good idea on a C4.

When I ran 17 I went to 225 up front. Much less under steer. And looked a bit better.

OT - but I very much doubt the tires were "killed". Modern tires do not permanently deform like back in the 70's. Getting them up to temp once typically eliminates any temporary flatness from extended sitting.

This has always proven true for me in 20+ yrs of storing hobby vehicles over the winter. Including the Conti DW's I currently have on my 993...

I really wish... I drove over 1200 km on the Yokohamas, and they are still messed up:-( The whole car vibrates on the freeway. It is ridiculous! They are out of round by about 2mm.
I am open to suggestions to save them...
I did the trip at 36/44psi. It got better after about an hour on the freeway, but then no more improvement. The whole car shakes.

The continentals got messed up during the shipping from the USA. I made the mistake to load the car in the container with only about 34psi all around, and that was it for them... I could never get them back. Good enough up to about 90km/h but unbearable on the freeways... in Los Angeles I could have lived with them, but not on French autoroutes...

I have heard that the tires can be shaved to make them round. There was a guy in Long Beach, CA that did this. I could try to get his contact info, but if you are in France, it will not be much help.
