value of G50/21 ROW gearbox ?
Hi Guys,
Anyone know what one of these is worth ?
Might build myself a G50/32 and it will probably be more cost effective to start from scratch with a new casing and then sell my existing G50/21 intact.

Thanks very much
So $15k then
72,000 miles, no issues and with m220 LSD
If it is that sort of value then it makes sense for me to sell it and then start my new box afresh from a core.

Jackal, like many, I have followed your blog and threads and always impressed with your diys - thanks for your contributions to the hobby!
Since I was the high water mark in the above thread, I'll throw out my thoughts on searching for a used /21. In retrospect, the 15 k price might have been a few k high, but that was a transmission gone thru price - opened up bearings steel synchros all gears inspected free of chips - basically a great shop doing whatever they needed.. Mild wear on some gears might be acceptable. But for street use a 100k mile life should be expected.
If I was after a used, /21 'as is', one is taking some risk as it's a high buy in, and if it fails, you are out $$$ to go thru it, plus an additional remove and install. I would take into consideration usage of owner too - ie street only, or some track use in the decision. To me, your trans would probably be worth around Steve's number, but since I already have a good /20 I think if I ever decide to regear it would make more sense to me personally to regear the one I have.
On ebay however, I think you'd get more than 6k for that transmission. Not 15, but more than 6. Based on 1. look what g/20's are going for and 2. there are literally no running /21's for sale anywhere in the world. And while there is the argument you can get the same or better trans by regearing, there is also the argument of originality as these cars become more collectible. i'e a low milage car that came with a /21 that fails or had it removed at some point. I think to that group, a used /21 would be the most valuable. I would put a high reserve on a long term listing and wait. People don't search for these every day. In Juhas thread, I am not positive but I believe he ended up getting 5k for a /21 that needed work.
