I was guessing packing/shipping error. Sounds like that was the case?

Bummer, no problem here. Install went very smoothly. I hope they cover return postage for you.

Hah, thanks. Yesterday I installed a new left lens on my left foglight (gee, I have four of them! Which one shall I choose?? :-) )

I had removed the original factory lenses years ago to repaint the inner housings silver. At the time I then rebonded the factory lenses to the housings with GE Silicone Glue.

This time around I discovered that cutting through the adhesive and removing the lenses were about 1000000000x easier w the silicone glue than with the OE grey stuff.

I would rate the factory foglight lens grey glue on the same level of over-kill-ness as the adhesive the factory uses on the rear seat cushion buttoms.

What are you guys using for adhesive? Anybody care to document the process? Wondering how hard/easy it is to remove the old lenses.

Follow this to remove the lenses - https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...l#post13244310

This is what I use for glue --- it is not nearly as ridiculously, excessively strong as the OE glue -

Doing it now, it's a pain. The rib around the glass lens fits between two ribs on the plastic housing, so the adhesive is impossible to access.

So what I'm doing is using a screwdriver to go around the lens and actually break off the outer plastic rib on the housing, so I can then cut the adhesive.

The inner rib should still provide plenty of surface to secure the new lens and seal it watertight.

An easier way might be to start by smashing the glass lens!

And hey, be sure to wear eye protection when prying on glass with a screwdriver!

Indeed that is what I did as well. Welcome to the club-of-victims-of-excessively-strong-Porsche-glue.

Just don't do what I did --- 3/4 of the way through glue removal, I got so impatient with the excessively strong glue that I decided to dispense with the razor blade and just apply ridiculously high amount of force by levering a screwdriver between the lens and the plastic foglight housing.

Guess What? Bad Idea.

I ended up cracking the plastic housing of the foglight in half. I had to glue it all back together and use bondo / sand / bondo / sand to get the thing back together in one piece prior to painting.

Effectively I took a 2 hour task and turned it into a 2 day task. Don't be like me.

This is the glue I recommend but have no affiliation.

Does the glue soften with heat? What if you were to use a heat gun on the glass, and operate on the units with oven mitts on?
