Default Help - need 16" tires for stock 16" wheels

Looking to replace the tires on my 1997 C2 Carrera. I have the stock 16" wheels which require the 245/45-16 (rear) and 205/55-16 (front) tires. My car currently has Continentals tires which state they are made in Germany. However, after checking several websites these tires do not appear to be made any more. Plus there appears to be very limited options available for replacement tires.

I would like to purchase a name brand tire (Continental, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Michelin) for the car which is speed rated for the car. Where can I buy replacement tires for the car? Not looking to buy new wheels - just looking to buy replacement tires.

Thanks,
Ken

Not what you want to hear, but picking up a set of 17" Cup 2s is a no brainer in today's tire world.

What you don't want to do is fake it by putting on, say, a 245/50-16.

I was just attempting to point him toward a source, but you're correct. Actually, Tire Rack doesn't list 16" sizes as original equipment for a 993. You have to toggle down until you get to the "Specify Custom Sizes" option and enter the 16" sizes.

It has been difficult if not downright impossible finding any performance tires for a 16" wheel for some time now...I think Falken used to offer a somewhat decent summer tire, but have since ceased making them.

As Ken pointed out, a set of 17" wheels will serve you much better in available tire selection; but it's difficult to sway a purest away from his/her forged Fuchs wheels!

I have recently put Bridgestone potenza re-11 on my 16 in rims. Tire rack has them along with 2 or 3 other types of street able tires. There are lots of track only tires in that size. Re-11s are great for the public road spirited driving I do. I don't expect to get much more than 15k miles on them though

Not Fuchs since the days of the torsion bar cars. Just "lowly" pressure cast base wheels which were delivered on very few 993s.

I run RE11s on the 996 Turbo, and they're fine. Basic problem is that the car here in question is extremely under-tired with any 205 up front, and the relatively narrow, extremely tall sidewall 245/45X16 rear. (It's hilarious to think in my lifetime we thought the 225/50 + 245/45 X16 combo was as good as it was ever going to get on a 911. But those were, at most, 2700 lb. cars.)
