I won't tell you about getting the oil fill cap on cross threaded/crooked. Just a really easy way to produce lots of smoke in a very short period of time. An added benefit is a James Bond oil slick as the smoke deploys. Fun stuff, for sure.

I, um, might of done something similar...maybe. But I didn't post on Rennlist.
For those who don't know it, gravity draws oil INTO the expansion grooves in the garage floor.....lots of oil and cursing at the oil DOES not make it stop flowing into the expansion grooves. It should, but it doesn't.
But I'd not post anything about it happening on Rennlist and damn it, I have a hound anyway!

Same here, but easy to make foolproof. Take a sharp knife and cut a couple of square holes on either side of the center hole. No more chance of overflow (unless you completely fill up the container).

Ex-girlfriend's attack poodle guards my 996tt. Poodles are great because they're smart as hell and don't shed.
To stay on topic, I just added a quart to the 993 and I made a huge mess. The filler tube has deteriorated and I threw it out. I used a funnel but that I forgot how slow the 993 accepts oil. I'm sure the next time I drive it, it'll smoke and stink from oil on the exhaust.

I always worry about that when refilling the oil. On my last oil change there was some smoking coming from that area after running for a minute or so. Turns out it was a blown motor mount leaking onto the catalytic converter.

DIY widget ...
Hate it when that happens. One of the local Indy's here uses a very large funnel connected to a spare oil filler cap to prevent such mishaps. He secures the top end of the funnel to the decklid with rubber strap and hook and confidently dumps in five quarts at a time. Good way to avoid "the horror"
Trick would be coming up with an oil tight seal between cap & funnel throat. But worth giving a DIY try. Next Pelican order adder ...

I always put a few paper towels under the filler port "just in case".
When I got married to my wife she had a standard poodle - I was embarrassed to be seen walking with him! Now that I've gotten used to him (ten years now) the fact that he doesn't shed is soo nice. He's smart but also a neurotic psycho.

Drifting
I have also found that jacking the rear of the car up, helps the flow of oil from the filler to the tank. Nothing crazy, just so that the rear is slightly higher than the front, not level.

For the record I replaced both filters, put 9 quarts in, warmed up the engine into its operating range. Added additional oil 1/2 quart at a time until the guage floats at mid scale with the engine running. I then check the dip stick. This time I plan to leave the oil at mid scale. In this way, I feel, it provides more information vs it being pinned on full.
